2. Objective, Agenda, & Homework Objective: Students will revise their writing and explain their goals for their writing. Agenda: ▫Memo ▫Highlighting Sentence Variety ▫Revising or Reading Time Homework: ▫Regular: Study Greek roots 1-16 for Wednesday’s quiz. ▫Honors: Greek roots 26-30 sheet is due Monday.

3. Memo Requirements: Short Story ▫Write your writer’s memo in one paragraph that answers all of the following questions. 1. What is your theme and how is it demonstrated? 2. How did you develop your character using the methods of characterization within the plot of the story? 3. What point of view did you choose and why? 4. What are your strengths and weaknesses? 5. What feedback would you like from me?

4. Highlighting Sentence Variety You will need to reread your short story. As you read, you will look for at least 2 examples of each of the following sentence types and highlight them with the following colors. ▫Yellow = Compound Sentences ▫Pink = Complex Sentences ▫Blue = Items in a Series ▫Green = Compound-Complex Sentence(s)  (Honors Only – only 1 example needed) This will allow me to know that you understand each type of sentence when I score you on sentence variety.

5. Scoring Sheet OVERALL SCORE: 2 Limited Minimal Inappropriate 4 Adequate Some 6 Competent Considerable Substantial 8 Sophisticated Effectively Perceptive Theme Point of View Characterization Plot Setting Sentence Structure and Variety

6. Writing and Revising After you have highlighted some of your sentences, start working on revising. ▫Replace ▫Add ▫Delete ▫And ▫Reorder You MUST submit a draft of your short story today. ▫You may use one of my colored pens to revise.

7. Independent Reading For the remainder of class, you may read your choice book or edit your short story with the colored pens.
