Pre-Revolution What are the pre-revolution norms or expectation of Iranian societal institutions such as schools, religion, families, and government and how did they impact the citizens of Iran, the U.S. and/or the rest of the world? Natalie Crouse

Families, Schools, and Government
People lived a very westernized life Enjoyed political and religious freedoms The government was a secular autocracy Women were allowed to dress freely and choose their own wardrobes The schools had great education and boys and girls went to school together. The government had one ruler for four decades

Religion People used to pray inside the home and drinking was to be done outside the home. Iran was also called the “Land of Kings” and is now called “Land of Mullahs” Religion was not as strict as it is today Islam was the dominate religion The demonstration of freedom of speech and freedom of religion

Impact The impact of having such a westernized lifestyle before the revolution made the results of the revolution much harder for most individuals. The value of their money decreased Negatively effected women’s social, political, and economic status. Social progress has been reversed especially with regards to women. Destroyed ties to the United States and many other countries Iran was seen as a threat because of the holding of nuclear weapons.
