2 Anchor Standard 1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work. Generate musical ideas (such as rhythms and melodies) within a given tonality and/or meter. Enduring Understanding: The creative ideas, concepts, and feelings that influence musicians’ work emerge from a variety of sources.

Enduring Understanding: Musicians’ creative choices are influenced by their expertise, context, and expressive intent.

Evaluate, refine, and document revisions to personal music, applying teacher-provided and collaboratively-developed criteria and feedback to show improvement over time. Enduring Understanding: Musicians evaluate, and refine their work through openness to new ideas, persistence, and the application of appropriate criteria.

8 Start with your title and or chorus’ main idea. Sing/play that motive until you are satisfied with it. Build your phrases from extending this thought. Create your verse to lead into and support your chorus. Verses are typically in a lower range than the chorus. Don’t fear repetition. “Try writing a chorus for your chorus.” Paul Baloche Look closely at your chord progression. Use a different starting chord for the differing section. Evaluate, refine, and document revisions to personal music, applying teacher-provided and collaboratively-developed criteria and feedback to show improvement over time.
