1 Learning Objective: To be able to discuss a complex issue in an agreed manner. To be able to empathise with others (putting yourself in someone else's position). To be able to contribute to a group discussion.

2 What is a value? What is an attitude? What people think is good and bad, right and wrong, desirable and undesirable. Principles, standards or qualities considered worthwhile or desirable by the person who holds them. A way of thinking, behaving or feeling that shows a person’s opinion. The reaction that people take on a subject that causes them to act in certain ways.

3 P4C Lesson Structure 1.Whole class sit in a circle 2.Recap on the ground rules for the session 3.Show the stimulus for the discussion 4.Independent thinking time (2 minutes) 5.Discussion in groups of 3 (5 minutes) 6.Discussion in groups of 6 to generate question for class debate (5 minutes) 7.Scribe groups questions on white board 8.Take a class vote on the question to be discussed 9.Winning question group to begin discussion by stating why they chose that particular question (what it means) 10.Whole class discussion following set rules (25 minutes) 11.Whole class final thoughts.

4 This child lives in Africa. He goes for days without food and as a result is severely mal-nourished. These children live in London. They are homeless and also struggle to get food and as a result have to beg for help. On your own… think about the children in the pictures. What thoughts or feelings do they invoke?
