00 Scale Colour Light Signals Instructions for building working colour light signals as featured on ”Windward” model railway. Designed for use with 12V DC power supply, with common anode (+) at signals. Common anode chosen for compatibility with electronic switching. Use of 12V LED’s eliminates the need for separate resistors and reduces risk of burnout. Structures are made from brass, with copper wire for ladders & handrails. Signal head design is the same for all types of gantry. Dimensions in mm unless stated otherwise. Inches are used where the brass stock is supplied in imperial sizes. © F1p UK 2010

Materials List Tubing 5/32” brass tube KS mm brass tube thinwall KSM85 Brass strip 3/16” brass channel KS ” x ½” brass strip KS241 1/32” x 3/32” brass strip Wire 0.5mm dia wire Telephone cable (4 x 0.5mm) 1.0mm 2 / 1.2mm dia wire. 30 awg kynar coated wire LED’s 3mm 12V LED’s Other Epoxy putty Paints © F1p UK 2010

Standard Lineside Signals 2mm tab formed by cutting tube to ¾ of full depth and flattened for soldering to faceplate Base of pole bevelled at 45° for easy insertion through baseboard Baseplate formed from ½” x.032” brass strip with 5/32” hole 75 Pole is made from 5/32” tube ½” Ladder rungs made from 0.5mm wire Ladder rails from 1mm wire Solder applied to join rungs to rails Lamp covers cut from 3.5mm dia thinwall brass tube 5 2 Faceplate drilled With 3.0 dia holes Made from flattened channel KS Step 1 Step 2Step 3 ¾” 6 © F1p UK 2010

Solder parts in the following order: 1.Ladder rungs to rails 2.Signal faceplate to pole 3.Pole into base 4.Attach ladder to base and pole LED anode lead bent ready for soldering to faceplate LED anodes soldered to faceplate Leads cut to length Solder wires in the following order: 1.Common anode attached just inside the pole 2.Thread wires through the pole and solder to LED cathodes Wires to be cm long For easy connection under baseboard Use 0.5mm single strand telephone cable Step 4 Step 5 Step 7 Step 6 55 © F1p UK 2010

Encase the Back of the LED’s with epoxy putty, shaped and smoothed. Paint in the final colour scheme Step 8 Step 9 Paint the insides of the lamp covers matt black Attach to the LED’s Using a small Amount of epoxy glue Step 10 © F1p UK 2010
