9 Go to the Oficina de Extranjería to obtain your NIE (Identification number as a foreigner). Take with you: 1.Your original passport and a photocopy of each page. 2.The letter of acceptance (carta de nombramiento). 3.Three colour photos 4.Some money for the tax. The rules however could vary from one Police station to another and I have no way of knowing that. If there are too many people, they might give you an appointment for another day, but please say that it is very important that you get your NIE ASAP and try to turn up in person the following day. 12 Access healthcare EU-Nationals The EU Nationals that hold the European Health Insurance Card, have access to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in any of the 28 EU countries with the same conditions as people insured in that country. Non-EU Nationals Language assistants from outside the EU are covered by an insurance policy provided by the Department of Education. It is a repatriation, accidents and Illness policy but will not cover diseases that were contracted before their arrival in Spain. The insurance card and package will be sent to your school.
