2 1.Mustard aphid is major insect for rape- mustard and is most important limiting factor for crop yield. So aphid resistant variety should be developed. 2.Alternaria blight is becoming serious menace for production of rape and mustard so proper control measure should be required. 3.Frost is often serious problem for rape- mustard. So, frost resistant variety should be developed. 4.Seed dormancy and low keeping quality is another problem in Sunflower. This problem should be solved. ISSUES FOR OILSEED

3 5.Drought & salinity are most important abiotic constraint for limiting oilseed in Bihar so stress tolerant variety of oilseed should be developed. 6.Weather based crop insurance for oilseed with minimum premium should be made compulsory. 7.MSP & Trade. 8.Institutional credit.

4 1.Availability of high yielding quality seeds at the time of sowing. 2.Replacement of uneconomical crop like sorghum, pearl millet, kouni, kodo, millets with rapeseed and mustard in rainfed area. 3.Use of INM & IPM technology for oilseed production. 4.Govt. procurement should be made for Oilseed like on MSP wheat & Paddy. 5.Adopting late shown mustard in rice fallow areas. SUGGESTIONS FOR ENHANCEMENT OF OILSEED PRODUCTION

5 6.By adopting oilseed cultivation in new season i.e. sunflower, sesame and groundnut in summer season. 7.The edible oils industry should take initiatives to increase oilseed production by promoting contract farming in this sector. 8.Devise and implement a programme of investment and development that will enable growers to increase their oilseeds production, and their returns. 9.Provide hassle-free timely and adequate institutional credit.

6 1.Insect & pest are more serious limiting factor for higher pulse production. 2.Drought & salinity are most important constraint for pulses in Bihar so stress tolerant variety of pulses should be developed. 3.Cold & frost tolerant variety of pulses are needed. 4.Inadequate avaibility of quality seeds of pulses resulting low SRR of pulses. ISSUES FOR PULSES

7 5.Most of the pulses variety are developed under rainfed situation so variety for high rainfall and irrigated condition should be developed. 6.Blue bull is number one enemy of pulses destroying the crop. 7.Cuscuta a parasitic weed creating a serious problem in chickpea & lentil. 8.MSP & Trade. 9.Institutional credit & Insurance.

8 1.Use of genetic potential and Quality seeds. 2.By adopting short duration cultivars of pulses as a catch crop like urad before taken rice crop. 3.To adopt inter cropping of rajma/peas in winter hybrid Maize. 4.To introduce soybean in kharif Maize in inter cropping. 5.Replacement of uneconomical crop like sorghum, pearl, millet, kouni, kodo, millets with pigeonpea in rainfed area. SUGGESTIONS FOR ENHANCEMENT OF PULSES PRODUCTION

9 6.Use of INM & IPM technology for pulse production. 7.Adopting MSP & Procurement. 8.Provide hassle-free timely and adequate institutional credit. 9.Crop Insurance should also introduce.
