Architecture and Design and Design TAFE into the future RMIT University©2010 Design and Social context 6 As you receive the Dean’s briefing on the current status of the Design Futures project I will be travelling in China with two other colleagues from DSC : We are visiting second tier cities, Chengdu, Changsha, Shenzhen and also Shanghai to promote our programs to agents and to establish potential links with similar vocational colleges with design programs. It is the first DSC trip with a specific focus on promoting Associate Degrees and our VET programs. The timing of the venture aligns with our emerging strategic direction to create an international positioning of our VET programs.
Architecture and Design and Design TAFE into the future Maintain, grow & ensure viability of our highly regarded and successful suite of vocational programs. Continue to develop, strengthen and extend Industry, Community and Local Government connections and collaborations. Diversify our product range to reduce reliance on government funding. Internationalisation of the curriculum and offshore delivery of VET programs and skill sets. Develop and extend our capacity to work across discipline areas and to engage with new opportunities within the new School of A&D framework. RMIT University©2011 School/Department/Area 7

Architecture and Design and Design TAFE into the future RMIT University©2010 Design and Social context 9 Landscape Architecture Program – at the Barcelona biennale, this program was named as best in the world Royal Institute Architecture Press - ambition of new school is to lift their school to the standard of RMIT Won a $5m grant - to help deliver our way of research to six universities in Europe. The EU does not fund Australia - this confirms the great reputation the School of Architecture & Design enjoys. Can't rely on Australian market – need to develop international market
Next steps RMIT University©2010 Design and Social context 10 The new Executive team will meet to undertake the following tasks: Complete the organizational chart Ascertain how committees will work, admin, etc. Identify what needs to be looked at and have workshops/small groups review specific areas (online feedback will be available) Look at projects to set us up for the next 5 years. Process of going through roles – will endeavour to map staff across into positions, otherwise there will be calls for expressions of interest. Other than ICGT – this is not a process for redundancies Feedback re projects will close at the end of January /early February - this information to be presented as projects for the school to move forward with into the future Deputy Dean Vietnam will be located in Vietnam but is a part of our Executive group - this person will build programs for the School and should be in place by March next year.
