Prosthodontics is the dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes.

4 Removable Complete Denture (CD):
A removable dental prosthesis that replaces the entire dentition and associated structures of the maxilla and/or mandible

5 Objectives Restoration of esthetics Restoration of speech
Restoration of mastication (chewing) Preservation of the remaining tissue health Patient satisfaction and comfort

6 CD includes: Conventional Immediate Overdenture Single denture
Implant retained

7 Parts of Complete Denture
A) Denture Base: which cover the edentulous tissue area and carries the artificial teeth B) Teeth: which are attached to the denture base for the purpose of chewing, esthetic, phonetics..etc

8 CD has three surfaces: Polished surface( cameo surface) The outer surface of the denture and in contact to the muscle of cheek and tongue

9 Fitting Surface ( intaglio surface )
The inner surface of the denture that contact to the oral mucosa

10 Occlusal Surface: A surface of posterior teeth or occlusion rim that is intended to make contact with opposing occlusal surface

11 Steps in CD Construction
CD construction cosists of six steps: Diagnosis, treatment plan, primary impression (preliminary) Border molding and final impression Jaw relation record Try-in the teeth Insertion of the denture Post-insertion adjustment
