SAFETY FIRST Sgt. Deb Newsome Canton Police
TIPS TO KEEP YOU SAFE Always check first with a parent, guardian, or trusted adult before going anywhere, accepting anything, or getting into a car with anyone. Do not go out alone. Always take a friend with you when going places or playing outside. Say no if someone tries to touch you, or treats you in a way that makes you feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused. Get out of the situation as quickly as possible.
TIPS TO KEEP YOU SAFE Tell a parent, guardian, or trusted adult if you feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused. There will always be someone to help you, and you have the right to be safe.
Lookout for dangerous situations or actions People may seem nice, but some of them might try to trick you. Remember “Situations or actions which do not feel right; make us feel uncomfortable, sad, scared, or hurt us in any way = danger”
Situations or Actions to Watch Out For
Dangerous Situations or Actions If someone says he or she has come to take you home because your Mom or Dad is sick, you should never get into a vehicle or go anywhere with any person unless your parents or guardians have told you it is okay to do so on that day. It could be a trick!! Run Away and Tell an Adult !!
Dangerous Situations and Actions Grownups and others who need help should not be asking children for help, they should be asking older people. If someone puts you in a situation or action like this, tell your mom or dad right away. It could be a trick!
Help me look for my lost puppy please…..
Could this be a Trick? Dangerous Situations and Actions No one should be asking you for directions, or asking you to help look for something like a “lost puppy”. Get away from these situations and actions as fast as you can. Tell an adult right away. Situations or Actions like these = Danger
But What if I know them or they know my name ?? Don’t be fooled They may have seen your name on your book bag, t-shirt or heard someone call you by name. NEVER GET IN A CAR with anyone unless your parents or guardian say it is okay on THAT DAY.
If you find yourself in a dangerous or uncomfortable situation or action… Yell as loud as you can “HELP! HELP!” Run towards other people or a home you know is safe.
Dangerous Situations or Actions If someone tries to take you somewhere, quickly get away from him (or her) and yell or scream, “This man (woman) is trying to take me away” or “This person is not my father (mother).” If someone tries to grab you, make a scene and make every effort to get away by kicking, screaming, and resisting
No one should touch you in the parts of the body that would be covered by a bathing suit, nor should you touch anyone else in those areas. Your body is special and private. You can be assertive, and you have the right to say no to someone who tries to take you somewhere; touch you; or make you feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused in any way.
THE END REMEMBER WHEN SITUATIONS OR ACTIONS OF OTHER PEOPLE MAKE US FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE, SAD, SCARED, OR HURT US IN ANY WAY; THESE SITUATIONS OR ACTIONS = DANGER
