2 What is arts management? “If you really want to help the American theater, dahling, don’t be an actor…be an audience” --Tallulah Bankhead Arts Management is the administration of arts and cultural organizations, including theaters, symphonies, museums, arts councils and historical societies. Arts Management students study the management and operation of nonprofit arts organizations, including marketing, audience development, governance and fundraising.

3 Arts Management education n Responding to industry growth and change n College-level programs just developing n Relatively small number of programs n Lack of suitable teaching material n Lack of consistency between programs n Rapidly changing conditions The bottom line: the need for a flexible, adaptable learning system for arts management students

9 What really happened… n We found we needed unique content n The need for materials in D2L and HTML formats complicated the process n Our technology reach sometimes exceeded our grasp n Collaboration is a sssllllloooooowww but rewarding process n We still like each other!
