4 Warming up Activity… Accounting is the core of any business. It is a process which gives you the information about the financial stability of your business. Each and every transaction that takes place within your organization has to be recorded properly. Without a proper Accounting system, no business can survive in this data oriented world. Accounting is based on some standards and these are known Accounting Standards. Every Organization must adhere to these Accounting Standards. If one organization fails to adhere to these well-defined Accounting Standards, then it will result in complete chaos within the organization and will spoil the reputation of the company. 5 Scanning Fast reading techniqueNo time to read every word. Searching for keywords, ideas, or a particular answer Involves moving eyes quickly down the page seeking for specific words and phrases

6 Steps of Scanning Move your eyes quickly across the page until you find what you are looking for. Run your finger down the page to keep your eyes focusing on the search for keywords. Look for words that are bold faced, italics, or in a different font size, style, or color If you are reading for study, start by thinking up or writing down some questions that you want to answer State what you are looking for, e.g: words, phrases, or facts

7 Find and circle the following words in this passage from Jane Austen’s Emma as quickly as possible: Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich, with a comfortable home and happy disposition, seemed to unite some of the best blessings of existence; and had lived nearly twenty-one years in the world with very little to distress or vex her. 9 Adjectives Phrase? Adjective phrase is group or a group of words whose head is an adjective Examples: Susan is clever The doctor is very late My sister is fond of animals

10 Adjectives Phrase? The pre-Head string in an AP is most commonly an adverb phrase such as very or extremely. Adjective Heads may be followed by a post-Head string: happy to meet you ready to go afraid of the dark

11 Adjectives Phrase? A small number of adjective Heads must be followed by a post- Head string. The adjective Head fond is one of these. Compare: My sister is fond of animals *My sister is fond

15 An adjectival phrase can be made by combining more than one adjective: a. The rich chocolate melted in her mouth. (adjective) b. The rich and creamy chocolate melted in her mouth. (adjectival phrase) An adjectival phrase can give more detail about a noun. It can help to answer the questions: a. Which chocolate? B. What was the chocolate like? e.g She tasted the chocolate in the silver wrapper. An adjectival phrase can come before or after a noun. a. She tasted the chocolate which was melting fast. b. She tasted the fast-melting chocolate.
