3 Chekhov is Russian playwright and one of the great masters of modern short story. In his work Chekhov portrayed often life in the Russian small towns.

4 Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was born in the small seaport of Taganrog, on south of Russia in a family of a grocer. Chekhov's mother was Yevgenia Morozova, the daughter of a cloth merchant.

5 He attended a school for Greek boys in Taganrog ( ) and Taganrog grammar school ( ). In 1879 Chekhov entered the Moscow University Medical School. He became a doctor. He started to publish hundreds of comic short stories in magazine «Oskolki».

6 In 1890 Chekhov traveled all over the world and explored people's lives on harsh island Sakhalin. Chekhov returned to Russia via Singapore, India, Ceylon, and the Suez Canal. Chekhov bought in 1892 a country estate in the village of Melikhovo, where his best stories were written From 1892 to 1899 Chekhov worked in Melikhovo, and in Yalta from 1899.

7 Chekhov's first novel, «Absurd victory» (1882), set in Hungary, parodied the novels of the popular Hungarian writer Mor Jokai. «The Shooting Party» was translated into English in Chekhov's fist book of stories (1886) was a success, and gradually he became a full-time writer.

8 The most famous Chekhov's plays are «Cherry garden», «Uncle Vanya», «The Seagull», «Three Sisters».

9 I went to the «Sovremennik» theatre. I was amazed by play of famous Russian actors. These plays connected different centuries in our consciousness.

10 Chekhov married in 1901 the Moscow Art Theater actress Olga Knipper ( ), who had several years central roles in his plays on stage. Chekhov died on July 14/15, 1904, in Badenweiler, Germany. He was buried in the cemetery of the Novodeviche Monastery in Moscow.

11 Nowadays people visit museums and monument of the playwright and one of the great masters of modern short story.

12 The books of A. P. Chekhov are very popular nowadays. His plays are modern and now.

13 Chekhov is Russian playwright and one of the great masters of modern short story, therefore his creation is dear for each person.
