1 An Illustrated Guide to Help Administrators on Student Count Issues For The Slides That Follow: Consider the area on this side of the lightning the Monona Grove School District For the Slides That Follow: Consider the area on this side of the lightning as part of some other school district This is a quick view of 15 of the various student enrollment situations that may affect how students are counted on your PI 1563. We hope this will help you better understand how and where to count your students. For students not covered by this presentation please consult the “Table For Counting and Recording Various Students on PI 1563” (81 different situations are shown on that table) or call the Business Office

2 This Section of the Presentation Illustrates: Students who are attending MG Schools or Programs Some may be residents while others may be non-residents

3 MG Resident Attending MG Schools or Program Count on PI 1563 Resident Pupil Count PCW 410001-001-000 thru 410008-001-000

4 I live elsewhere, but attend MG & pay tuition Do Not Count On official DPI PI 1563 But Still Count on District’s Attendance Record MG Business Mgr. says, “We have their $$$” & they are on the official tuition list.

5 Lives elsewhere, but attends MG on an Open Enrollment Basis Do Not Count On official DPI PI 1563 But Still Count on District’s Attendance Record I double checked and he/she is on Bev’s list

6 Parents live elsewhere, but student lives in MG in order to attend MG schools. Thayer Rule--Must Pay Tuition Do Not Count On official DPI PI 1563 But Still Count on District’s Attendance Record Thank goodness the Smith’s let me stay here so I can go to MG The Smith’s are so nice to let our son stay with them so he can attend MG.

7 Parents live elsewhere, but student lives in MG for reason other than to attend MG schools Thayer Rule--No Tuition Count on PI 1563 Resident Pupil Count PCW 410001-001-000 thru 410008-001-000 I feel safe here, and the good MG schools are a bonus. We believe it is in the best interest of --- to not live with parents.

8 Lives elsewhere, but attends MG. Note: parents own property in MG Parent must pay Tuition Do Not Count On official DPI PI 1563 But Still Count on District’s Attendance Record We live here, but own property in MG.

9 Living elsewhere, but attends MG as a senior and achieved Senior Status while at MG Count on PI 1563 Resident Pupil Count PCW 410001-001-000 thru 410008-001-000 Thank goodness I finished my junior year before my parents moved away.

10 This Section Deals With TUITION WAIVERS TO COMPLETE A SCHOOL YEAR Watch out for the 2nd & 3rd slides in this section. What sometimes looks like a waiver to attend the next school year, the DPI classifies it as a waiver to complete the current school year.

11 Lives elsewhere now, but was a resident and enrolled 20 days (this year) including Sept. or (Jan) count date District must waive tuition to Complete the Year Count on PI 1563 Resident Pupil Count PCW 410001-001-000 thru 410008-001-000 On the count date were you still living in MG? In addition, have you been enrolled for 20 days? Yes.

12 Living elsewhere now, but was a resident on July 1, and was enrolled in MG on July 1; but moved prior to Sept. Count Day (or moved prior to 20 days of attendance)& is MG has officially waived tuition 1. If District waived tuition, student may stay. (District may permit-not required) Count on PI 1563 Resident Pupil Count PCW 410001-001-000 thru 410008-001-000 2. If District did not waive tuition, student must pay tuition to stay. (see next slide) Can I Stay?

13 Do Not Count On official DPI PI 1563 But Still Count on District’s Attendance Record Can I Stay? Living elsewhere now, but was a resident on July 1, and was enrolled in MG on July 1; but moved prior to Sept. Count Day (or moved prior to 20 days of attendance) & is MG did not officially waived tuition

14 This Section Deals With TUITION WAIVERS TO ATTEND ADDITIONAL SCHOOL YEAR Designed to prevent a student who did not anticipate a move from being shut out because of the open enrollment window. (If the students did not know they were going to move, they probably would not have applied for open enrollment)

15 Lives elsewhere now, but answers YES to all 4 questions Must Waive Tuition Treat as an Open Enrollment Student. Do not count on DPI PI 1563, but count on District’s Attendance Record On the Jan count date were you a resident of MG? Did you move after the 1st Monday in February? Were you continuously enrolled from count day until end of school? Do you still live in Wisconsin?

16 Live elsewhere, but plan to move into MG 1. If Board has approved this arrangement, enroll and count as Resident on PCW 410001-001-000 thru 410008-001-000 2. Consult Business Mgr. Some situations require tuition. We use the 9 weeks convention. All in favor say AYE lease I’ll check Can out student start at MG

17 Student in recognized foreign exchange program (AFS) Count on PI 1563 Resident Pupil Count PCW 410001-001-000 thru 410008-001-000 Mama. The people at MG are really nice Oh. That’s good to hear.

18 This Section of the Presentation Illustrates: Students who are Residents of Monona Grove However They are attending Schools or Programs outside our MG School District

19 Resident attends elsewhere on 66.30 agreement Count on PI 1563 Resident Pupil Count PCW 410001-001-000 thru 410008-001-000 I attend Successful Choices in McFarland

20 Resident attends elsewhere & MG pays the tuition Count on PI 1563 Resident Pupil Count PCW 410001-001-000 thru 410008-001-000 and Non-Open Enrollment Tuition Transfers By Grade PCW 410020-001-000 thru PCW 410027-001-000 and Non-Open Enrollment Tuition Transfer by Place of Attendance PCW 410029-001-000 thru PCW 410033-001-00 Thanks MG. I like this school better.
