“And now I give you a new commandment: love one another
“And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.” (John 13:34-35 – GN)

“Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going; so how can we know the way to get there?’ Jesus answered him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me. Now that you have known me,’ he said to them, ‘you will know my Father also, and from now on you do know him and you have seen him.’ Philip said to him, ‘Lord, show us the Father; that is all we need.’ Jesus answered, ‘For a long time I have been with you all; yet you do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. Why, then, do you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe, Philip, that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?’” (John 14:6-10 – GN)

“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever. He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God. The world cannot receive him, because it cannot see him or know him. But you know him, because he remains with you and is in you.” (John 14:16-17 – GN)

“I do not call you servants any longer, because servants do not know what their master is doing. Instead, I call you friends, because I have told you everything I heard from my Father.” (John 15:15 – GN)

“I have much more to tell you, but now it would be too much for you to bear. When, however, the Spirit comes, who reveals the truth about God, he will lead you into all the truth.” (John 16:12-13 – GN)

“I have been speaking to you in parables - but the time is coming to give up parables and tell you plainly about the Father. When that time comes, you will make your requests to him in my own name, for I need make no promise to plead to the Father for you, for the Father himself loves you.” (John 16:25,26 – JB Phillips) “…and I do not promise to intercede with the Father for you, for the Father loves you himself…” (Goodspeed)

“And eternal life means to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, whom you sent. I have shown your glory on earth; I have finished the work you gave me to do…I have made you known to those you gave me out of the world.” (John 17:3-6 – GN)

“For the message about Christ’s death on the cross is nonsense to those who are being lost; but for us who are being saved it is God’s power.” (1 Corinthians 1:18 – GN) “This means that every time you eat this bread and drink from this cup you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes…For if you do not recognize the meaning of the Lord’s body when you eat the bread and drink from the cup, you bring judgment on yourself as you eat and drink.” (1 Corinthians 11:29 – GN)

The character of God “The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your life for them.” (John 15:13 – GN) “Forgive them, Father! They don’t know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34 - GN) “So Jesus, seeing His mother there, and the disciple whom He loved standing near, said to His mother, [Dear] woman, See, [here is] your son! Then He said to the disciple, See, [here is] your mother! And from that hour, the disciple took her into his own.” (John 19:26,27 – Amplified Bible) “I promise you that today you will be in Paradise with me” (Luke 23:43 – GN)

“If one of you wants to be great, you must be the servant of the rest; and if one of you wants to be first, you must be the slave of the others--- like the Son of Man, who did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life to redeem many people.” (Matthew 20:26-28 – GN)

“No one takes my life away from me. I give it up of my own free will
“No one takes my life away from me. I give it up of my own free will. I have the right to give it up, and I have the right to take it back.“ (John 10:17,18 – GN) “Jesus knew everything that was going to happen to him, so he stepped forward and asked them, ‘Who is it you are looking for?’ ‘Jesus of Nazareth,’ they answered. ‘I am he,’ he said. Judas, the traitor, was standing there with them. When Jesus said to them, ‘I am he,’ they moved back and fell to the ground. Again Jesus asked them, ‘Who is it you are looking for?’ ‘Jesus of Nazareth,’ they said. ‘I have already told you that I am he,’ Jesus said. ‘If, then, you are looking for me, let these others go.’ …Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the High Priest's slave, cutting off his right ear. The name of the slave was Malchus.” (John 18:4-10 – GN)

“Through the Son, then, God decided to bring the whole universe back to himself. God made peace through his Son’s blood on the cross and so brought back to himself all things, both on earth and in heaven. At one time you were far away from God and were his enemies because of the evil things you did and thought. But now, by means of the physical death of his Son God has made you his friends…” (Colossians 1:20-22 – GN)

“We are ruled by the love of Christ, now that we recognize that one man died for everyone…All this is done by God, who through Christ changed us from enemies into his friends and gave us the task of making others his friends also. Our message is that God was making all human beings his friends through Christ. God did not keep an account of their sins, and he has given us the message which tells how he makes them his friends. Here we are, then, speaking for Christ, as though God himself were making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ's behalf: let God change you from enemies into his friends!” (2 Corinthians 5:14-21 – GN)

“For when we were still helpless, Christ died for the wicked at the time that God chose. It is a difficult thing for someone to die for a righteous person. It may even be that someone might dare to die for a good person. But God has shown us how much he loves us---it was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us! By his blood we are now put right with God; how much more, then, will we be saved by him from God's anger! We were God's enemies, but he made us his friends through the death of his Son. Now that we are God's friends, how much more will we be saved by Christ's life! But that is not all; we rejoice because of what God has done through our Lord Jesus Christ, who has now made us God's friends.” (Romans 5:6-11 – GN)

Satan unveiled “I’ll not be talking with you much more like this because the chief of this godless world is about to attack. But don’t worry--he has nothing on me, no claim on me. But so the world might know how thoroughly I love the Father, I am carrying out my Father’s instructions right down to the last detail. Get up. Let’s go. It’s time to leave here.” (John 14:30,31 – The Message) “Simon, Simon! Listen! Satan has received permission to test all of you, to separate the good from the bad, as a farmer separates the wheat from the chaff. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. And when you turn back to me, you must strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:31,32 – GN)

“People passing by shook their heads and hurled insults at Jesus: ‘You were going to tear down the Temple and build it back up in three days! Save yourself if you are God's Son! Come on down from the cross!’ In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the Law and the elders made fun of him: ‘He saved others, but he cannot save himself ! Isn’t he the king of Israel? If he will come down off the cross now, we will believe in him! He trusts in God and claims to be God’s Son. Well, then, let us see if God wants to save him now!’” (Matthew 27:39-43 – GN)

“You are the children of your father, the Devil, and you want to follow your father's desires. From the very beginning he was a murderer and has never been on the side of truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he is only doing what is natural to him, because he is a liar and the father of all lies.” (John 8:44 – GN)

“Jesus himself became like them and shared their human nature
“Jesus himself became like them and shared their human nature. He did this so that through his death he might destroy the Devil…” (Hebrews 2:4 – GN). “And on that cross Christ freed himself from the power of the spiritual rulers and authorities; he made a public spectacle of them by leading them as captives in his victory procession.” (Colossians 2:15 – GN)

Sin “You must not eat the fruit of that tree; if you do, you will die the same day.” (Genesis 2:17 – GN) “For sin pays its wage---death; but God's free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) “Turn away from all the evil you are doing, and don’t let your sin destroy you.” (Ezekiel 18:30)

“Rogers died with such composure that it might have been a wedding”

“Distress and anguish came over his, and he said to them, ‘The sorrow in my heart is so great that it almost crushes me.” (Mark 14:33,34 – GN) “Pray that you will not fall into temptation’…An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. In great anguish he prayed even more fervently; his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground… ‘Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you will not fall into temptation” (Luke 22:43,44,46 – GN)

“Grief and anguish came over him, and he said to them, ‘the sorrow in my heart is so great that it almost crushes me. Stay here and keep watch with me.’ He went a little farther on, threw himself face downward on the ground, and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, take this cup of suffering from me! Yet not what I want, but what you want’…Once more Jesus went away and prayed, ‘My Father, if this cup of suffering cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done’…Again Jesus left them, went away, and prayed the third time, saying the same words” (Matthew 26:37-39). “You have drunk the cup of punishment that the Lord in his anger gave you to drink; you drank it down, and it made you stagger.” (Isaiah 51:17 – GN)

“The soldiers came by to break the legs of the men on the cross, but when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead…” (John 19:33 – GN) “Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus was already dead.” (Mark 15:44 – GN)

“But he lifted up our illnesses, he carried our pain; even though we thought he was being punished, attacked by God, and afflicted for something he had done. He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed. All of us had wandered off like sheep; each of us had strayed off on his own path, but the Lord caused the sin of all of us to attack him. He was treated harshly and afflicted, but he did not even open his mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughtering block, like a sheep silent before her shearers, he did not even open his mouth. He was led away after an unjust trial—but who even cared? Indeed, he was cut off from the land of the living; because of the rebellion of his own people he was wounded. They intended to bury him with criminals, but he ended up in a rich man’s tomb, because he had committed no violent deeds, nor had he spoken deceitfully.” (Isaiah 53:4-9 – NET)

God’s anger is revealed from heaven against all the sin and evil of the people whose evil ways prevent the truth from being known. God punishes them, because what can be known about God is plain to them, for God himself made it plain” (Romans 1:18,19 – GN). “They say they are wise, but they are fools; instead of worshiping the immortal God, they worship images made to look like mortals or birds or animals or reptiles. And so God has given those people over to do the filthy things their hearts desire, and they do shameful things with each other. They exchange the truth about God for a lie; they worship and serve what God has created instead of the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever! Amen. Because they do this, God has given them over to shameful passions….Because those people refuse to keep in mind the true knowledge about God, he has given them over to corrupted minds, so that they do the things that they should not do.” (Romans 1:22-26,28 – GN).

“Because of our sins he was given over to die, and he was raised to life in order to put us right with God.” (Romans 4:25) “My God, my God, why did you abandon me?” (Matthew 27:46 – GN) “For sin pays its wage---death; but God's free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

“…as soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him
“…as soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.” (John 13:27 – GN) “Then Peter said, ‘I swear that I am telling the truth! May God punish me if I am not! I do not know that man!’ Just then a rooster crowed…” (Matthew 26:74 – GN) “We have no king but Caesar” (John 19:15, KJV) “At that time there was a well-known prisoner named Jesus Barabbas. So when the crowd gathered, Pilate asked them, ‘Which one do you want me to set free for you? Jesus Barabbas or Jesus called the Messiah?’” (Matthew 27:16-17 – GN)

“Then the Jews, since it was the day of Sabbath preparation, and so the bodies wouldn’t stay on the crosses over the Sabbath (it was a high holy day that year), petitioned Pilate that their legs be broken to speed death, and the bodies taken down.” (John 19:31 – The Message). “With a loud cry Jesus died. The curtain hanging in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The army officer who was standing there in front of the cross saw how Jesus had died. ‘This man was really the Son of God!’” (Mark 15:37-39 – GN)
