THESE ARE: Social and personal learning Health and physical learning Language learning and communication Early mathematical understandings Active learning processes These five areas Early Learning Areas are linked to the curriculum that is used in other primary school year levels. 7 POSITIVE SCHOOL BEHAVIOUR New system – like the traffic lights Red slip – major rule infringement Orange slip – minor with a chance of a win back Gold class Second orange slip – no Gold Class Letters home for parents if students get an orange or red slip Walt Winner – positive behaviour award House points for positive in class behaviour – Moreton, Stradbroke and Peel

9 WARM UPS At Wynnum West, we present lesson warm-ups [5 mins approx.], an integral component of our explicit instruction lesson format. Mandated in all classrooms [P-7] - everyday Usually delivered to the whole class using a range of materials including flashcards and white board Delivered at the beginning of an English or Maths session Includes a range of activities and chants, with check for understanding (CFU) occurring throughout Shared Purpose: ~ switch on students to learning ~ develop automaticity [number facts/sight words/phonics…] ~ consolidate core concepts and skills [review prior learning] ~ move student knowledge from short term to long term memory ~ builds students ‘stamina’ - ability to focus ~ builds confidence in students yet to acquire knowledge, providing opportunities for repetition and practice

11 EXTRA SERVICES School Chaplain here Tuesdays and Thursdays – Ms Louanne Playgroup -Tuesday mornings in Activity Center – 9.00.10.30 After School Guitar, Keyboard and Taekwondo lessons Swim club – Tuesday nights – beat you personal best and have fun – term one and four Swim instruction by Bayside Swim School – Wednesday and Friday afternoons Instrumental music lessons – Tuesdays for yr 5 – 7 Junior and Senior Choir
