3 MISSION U of U Global Health Initiative is a medical and public health based educational & service program designed to: 1)Provide a positive, meaningful educational experience for all participants 2)Engage with partner countries interested in a true collaboration to understand and solve health related issues at the local community level and evaluate success through measurable benchmark 3)Create long term solutions that promote community level sustainability, self-reliance, on-going progress and independence 4)Build a strong bond between the USA and partner countries by achieving mutual good through health diplomacy and bi- directional beneficiary programs

9 PROVEN MODEL IN BARAKUMA, GHANA Refined model with over 13 years in the “foundation village” in Kumasi, Ghana ‒ Continue to successfully run all four phases of model in partnership with local community, government, hospital and school. Highlights include: On-going physician and student exchanges, site visits Public Health research in local disease and sanitation issues Funding and building of two K- 9 schools, village sanitation facility, community health station and development of viable money-making ventures Continue to unlock local human potential, reinforce local cultural, institutions and infrastructure

12 HAINAN, CHINA INITIATIVE Hainan Medical College contacted U of U with interest in its global health program ‒ Agreed with overall mission and goals ‒ Agreed with local community and U of U partnership model ‒ Believes participating in a “health diplomacy” program benefits local doctors, students and residents of the community Conducted site inspection and initial discussion first quarter 2009 ‒ Working through logistics and scope of project ‒ Hainan Medical College is on board, local government suppotive but collaborative approach is unfamiliar This is key to success of program and collaboration must be procured before beginning the project
