2 Introducing Search Toolbar Icons

3 1.Select Databases List: Use the select databases list to specify which of the open Reference Manager databases to search, or all open databases. 2.Internet Search: To search Reference Manager databases, do not select the “Internet search” option. See Chapter 6 for more information about remote searches using the Internet Search command. 3.Online Session Log: The online session log records your complete session when you connect to a remote database. 4.Start Search (F12): Use the binocular icon to start a search using the parameters entered on the Search window. 5.Strategy Files: If you frequently run the same searches, you can save the search strategies and later load them when you need them.

4 6.Last Searches: Click the Last Searches icon to display a list of recent searches that were run since the database was opened for this session. 7.Browse (F3): When you select an indexed field to search, you can use the Browse list to select and insert a term into the Parameter column from the corresponding Term list. 8.Insert Parameter (Alt+I) & Delete Parameter (Alt+E): Use this icon to add or remove a line from the search window. 9.Clear All Entries (Alt+L): Use the eraser icon to clear the Search window so you can create a new search strategy. 10.Sub parameters: Use the AND (F6), NOT (F7), and OR (F8) buttons to insert logical connectors between terms on a line. For more information about these connectors, see “Connecting Search Items with “And,” “Or,” and “Not”” on page 178.

6 New To do an online search open a database old or

7 click on camera on toolbar or from Tools menu choose internet search.

10 To combine words in a field use connectors up top

11 Click ok to retrieve all 585 references

17 After choosing right references click send to File If you don’t select any reference all references in the search session will be saved

25 First field can be Topic or Title

26 Other fields and also parameters are un-changeable in search in ISI

27 For example here we will search for articles that Mr. Fisher had published in Endocrinology Journal with hypothyroidism as topic between years 1990 to 2007.

29 Perform a search & choose references you want to download

32 Automatically reference manager will be opened & ask you for a database to import references

33 Export & Import References from Online Databases

34 Download or Export citations from OVID Web Gateway 1. Do a search. 2. Click on “Display” to see your search results. 3. Click on “Citation Manager.” The Citation Manager is located at the bottom of the title display page.

35 Citations. Specify which references you’d like to download. Fields. The default fields are the citation and abstract fields. If you’d like to use the MESH headings as your keywords, choose “Citation+ Abstract+ Subject Headings.”

36 Direct Export Use this option if you’d like to directly export the references into Reference Manager (You need to have Reference Manager 9.x in order to use this option). If you own previous versions, use the “Reprint/Medlars” format when downloading.)

37 Choose this format in order to import the downloaded file to a reference management program. Reprint/Medlars

38 Action Save Click on this button when you chose to “Direct Export” or download as “Reprint/Medlars” format. 4. The citations you chose will be either directly imported or saved as cites.txt in the subdirectory of your choice.

39 Save references from OVID database

40 Choose your articles then go to the bottom of the page

41 Follow number order & select each desired item. 1 2 3 4 3-2 3-1 or

42 With option for windows selected click continue

43 Click save

44 Now your references will be saved in a text file in the place you chose & you should then import them to your database.
