Ethics, standard or values or moral principles, need to be applied in daily life.

Islamic Ethics to apply in daily life can be found in Islam’s two original sources: the Quran and Hadith.

Why Apply Ethics in Life? To develop oneself and succeed. To help others and form a duty-conscious society.

My Freedom Ends Where Other’s Nose Begins Each person has been given freedom by God Almighty Himself. (Quran 18: 29) If all use their freedom unlimitedly it will lead to a rights-conscious, disrupted society. For success at an individual level and the formation of a duty-conscious society people have to limit their freedom themselves.

Change Yourself To Change The World “As regards the reformation of human beings, there is only one really important thing and that is, reformation of the mind.” – Quran 13:11 Forcing others to change themselves leads to coercion. For individual success & the formation of a duty-conscious society the formula is, ‘Change Yourself to Change the World at the mind level.’

The Art of Difference Management Don’t try to eliminate differences but try to manage them. This can only be achieved by practicing the principle of tolerance.

Challenges Lead To Development There is a positive aspect of differences. All developments in history were due to the Challenge-Response Mechanism. – Arnold Toynbee Differences Lead to Challenges Challenges Lead To Development For this patience is the key!

Non-Violence Yields Positive Results Reconciliation is the best option. Quran. 4: 128 God grants to non-violence what He does not grant to violence. – Hadith It is a law of nature that non-violence is result-oriented, while violence leads to destruction. For this we have to follow the principles of reconciliation and forgiveness.

Do Not Touch Other’s Ego When an ego is touched, it becomes a super-ego. For social living the Quran gives the example of planets, “Each floats in its own orbit.” 36:40 For this we have to follow the principle of avoidance.

The Art of Conversion Repel evil with good. And you will find that one who was your enemy will become your dearest friend. Quran 41: 34 For this we have to follow unilateral ethics.

The Golden Rule of Ethics Behave positively with others: A believer is one who likes for others what he likes for himself. – Hadith The ethic to follow that forms the basis of all other positive values is the golden rule.
