2 It has been observed that negligence of people is taking a heavy toll in the construction sector. More than a dozen buildings failures in the NCR Delhi area were reported during the last one year resulting in loss of several precious lives. All such accidents at construction sites were inspected thoroughly by the experts of IBC and remedial measures were suggested / propagated through print & electronic media and our popular website. In all, 12 such accidents have been studied and researches of these studies are available on IBC website. 2

3 BUILDING ACCIDENTS IN NCR AREA Four persons were killed and several injured as a result of collapse of a under construction four storeyed building in Ghaziabad on July 16, 2011 Eight people died and several injured as a result of collapse of a 30 ft high porch under construction of a five storeyed engineering college in village Aurangabad, 12 km from Palwal township on July 25,2011. Three persons were killed and two children injured as a result of collapse of a single storeyed building in Ghaziabad on August 25, 2011 A 15 years old boy died and six others were seriously injured due to collapse of a under construction building in Kanjhawala, Delhi on September 18, 2011. Four people were killed and several injured when a 15 year old three storeyed building came down as a pack of cards on December 3, 2011 in Uttam Nagar, West Delhi Four children aged between 8 to 12 years died after a panel of half brick wall being constructed unauthorizedly to add another floor to an existing four storeyed building collapsed on February 26,2012 in Chattarpur Extension in South Delhi 3

4 BUILDING ACCIDENTS IN NCR AREA An accident took place on the night of 8 th June, 2012 when a portion of MCD school building collapsed in Pitampura because of caving in of the excavation in the adjoining plot where a three storied underground parking for 150 cars spread over as area of approximate 3000 sq. mtrs was being constructed Collapse of a under construction RCC structure caused by serious structural design lapse on 4 th July, 2012 in a newly carved out rehabilitation colony of Narela, New Delhi. Although there was no fatal causality but a number of labourers working at site got seriously injured. Three labourers died and another nine persons seriously injured when the staircase being constructed within the RCC shaft of 1650 kilolitre over head water tank of 25m staging height collapsed on July 18, 2012 in Maicha village of Greater Noida Two labourers were killed and 3 injured when a three storeyed unauthorized building under construction collapsed at A-15, Kirti Nagar, West Delhi on July 24, 2012 Three persons died when a portion of two illegally constructed floors collapsed on August 30, 2012 in Gandhi Nagar, East Delhi Three storeyed school building under construction in the SRS residence area located off the Kheri Bypass road in Greater Faridabad collapsed on December 11, 2012. This resulted in death of six workers at site of mishap. 4
