2 Copyright © 2013 SCKCEN MAX School - Frankfurt am Main – 1 st -2 nd October 2013 MYRRHA LINAC - Why R&D? 2 A conceptual design of an ADS-type high power proton linac has been initiated by EURATOM Framework Programmes 5 and 6 (PDS ‐ XADS and EUROTRANS projects) The MYRRHA linac has a challenging reliability goal less than 10 failures over a 3 month operation cycle (a failure being identified as a beam trip longer than 3 sec) R&D programs are now focused on: Advanced beam dynamics and error studies Reliability modeling Optimization of the injector design and construction Prototype cryomodule design and operation
