Public Interest Economic Interests Professional Groups Ideological Groups Single-Issue Groups The Humane Society works to reduce suffering and improve the lives of all animals by advocating for better laws; investigating animal cruelty; conducting campaigns to reform industries; providing animal rescue and emergency response; and caring for animals through our emergency shelters.

10 Taking Sides Think of two goals each group might have that would either support of oppose the new USDA limits on potatoes in school lunches. We will share answers after 200 seconds.

11 The Potato Problem Please follow the steps on the worksheet to create your own interest group. Work alone on this project. If you are interested in sharing, I will have you share with the class when we are done. When this rainbow timer reaches its end, we will present our groups.

Your home prep: Watch television or YouTube or Vine (or anything with advertisements) tonight. Write down three products being sold, descriptions of the advertisements, and your guess on the technique being used.

14 Matching Activity Cut out the six statements and match them to the Sierra Club, the AARP, and the AMA. When you are finished, work on the review worksheet on the back. This slide was taken out for the 1415 school year.
