2 Alaska Puerto Rice Guam Midway Atolls Palmyra Atoll Wake Islands American Samoa Guantanamo Bay Possession: An item of property; something belonging to one as a controlling of the lands.

3 Alaska Puerto Rice Guam Midway Atolls Palmyra Atoll Wake Islands Guantanamo Bay American Samoa U.S. takes possession of Alaska from Russia. Russian-American company had financial troubles so they sell Alaska to the Americans for $7.2 millions. In December, after Spanish- American War over, the Treaty of Paris was signed, ending the Spanish-American War and officially approving the cession of Puerto Rico to the U.S. Guam was under control by Spanish since 1668. Guam became territory of the U.S. as part of terms of the treaty of Paris that ended the Spanish-American War. It is also related to Puerto Rice, too. Midway Atolls is the member of Hawaiian which means it’s chain of Hawaii. The first visited there was the Americans and became a U.S. possession.

4 U.S. wanted this place in Alaska for easier shipping a way to a stop China. (Transports across the pacific ocean from Alaska to China). The U.S. possessions of an islands in the area of the Pacific Ocean for export to foreign markets. Development of U.S. expansionism. Expansionism: The policy of territorial or economic expansion.

Imperial: Of or relating to an empire. Imperialism: A policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. Also rule by an emperor.

6 Puerto Rice: Under US control since 1900, became a commonwealth in 1902. Purpose of possession: military significance. American Samoa: Coaling station in 1878. Guam: military significance in 1898. Midway Atolls: claimed in 1876, annexed in 1908 and purpose of possession: military significance. Palmyra Atoll: Was part of the Hawaii acquisition in 1898. Wake Islands: Military significance in1898. Guantanamo Bay: Military significance in 1898. Acquisitions: Object or land bought as possessions
