3 Edmund Barton Edmund Barton was the Prime Minister from the 1st January 1901 to 24th September 1903. Edmund was the second youngest of 11 children in his family. Edmund Barton was the first PM for Australia. They celebrated at a grand ceremony on the same day. Edmund Barton was born on the 18th January 1849 at Glebe, NSW. Edmund’s electorate was Hunter, NSW. Edmund died because of a sudden heart attack on the 7th January 1920. Edmund Barton was in the Protectionist party.

4 Alfred Deakin Alfred Deakin was the Prime Minister from the 24th September 1903 to 27th April 1904, from the 5th July 1905 to 13th November 1908 and from the 2nd June 1909 to 29th April 1910. Alfred Deakin was the second, fifth and seventh PM. Alfred was popular. He convinced 80% of his electors to votes for federation. Alfred was born on the 3rd August 1856 at Melbourne, VIC. Alfred’s electorate was Ballarat, VIC. Alfred’s final years were sad because he started to lose his memory. He died on the 7th October 1919. Alfred Deakin was in the Protectionist Party.

5 Chris Watson Chris Watson was and is still the youngest PM ever. He was 37 years old. Chris Watson was the Prime Minister from the 27th April 1904 to 17th August 1904. Chris Watson was born on the 9th April 1867 at Valparaiso, Chile. John Christian Watson was his full name. Chris died on the 18th November 1941. Chris Watson was the first Labor Prime Minister. Chris’s electorate was Bland, NSW.

6 George Reid George Reid was Prime Minister from the 18th August 1904 to 5th July 1905. George was the first Australian PM to die. George Reid was born on 8th August 1880 at Grafton, NSW. George Houstoun Reid is his full name. George’s electorate was Cowper, NSW. George died on the 12th September 1918. George Reid was the leader of the free trade party and then he decided to call it the Anti-Socialist Party.

7 Andrew Fisher Andrew Fisher was Prime Minister from the 13th November to the 2nd June 1909, from 29th April 1910 to 24th June 1913, and from 17th September 1914 to 27th October 1915. Andrew went to Crosshouse Primary School when he was a little boy. Andrew had a strong Scottish accent. Andrew Fisher was born on the 29th August 1862 Crosshouse, Ayrshire, Scotland. Andrew’s electorate was Wide Bay, QLD. Andrew died in Britain on the 22nd October 1928. Andrew Fisher was in the Labor party.

8 Joseph Cook Joseph Cook was Prime Minister from the 24th June 1913 to 17th September 1914. Joseph’s wife was a school teacher. When Joseph Cook left politics he served as an Australia’s third High Commissioner in London from 1921 to 1927. Joseph Cook was born on the 7th December 1860 at Silverdale, England. Joseph died on the 30th July 1947. Joseph Cook was in the Labor party. Joseph’s electorate was Parramatta, NSW.

9 William Morris Hughes William Morris Hughes was Prime Minister from the 27th October 1915 to 9th February 1923. William Morris Hughes was the longest PM until Robert Menzies. Billy William Morris Hughes was his full name. William Morris Hughes was born on the 25th September 1862 London. William’s electorate was West Sydney, NSW. William died on the 28th October 1952. William Morris Hughes was in the Labor party.

10 Stanley Bruce Stanley Bruce was Prime Minister from the 9th February 1923 to 22nd October 1929. Stanley Bruce was the eighth PM and the second youngest. Stanley Bruce was born on the 15th April 1883 Melbourne, VIC. Stanley Melbourne Bruce was his full name. Stanley’s electorate was Flinders, VIC. Stanley was in the Nationalist party. Now they call it Labor party. Stanley died on the 25th August 1967.

11 James Scullin James Scullin had a big welcome when he arrived at Canberra on the 21st October 1929. James Scullin was Prime Minister from the 22nd October 1929 to 6th January 1932. James Scullin was born on the 18th September 1876 at Trawalla, VIC. James Henry Scullin was his full name. James’s electorate was Yarra, VIC. James died on the 28th January He was sick for a long time before he died. James Scullin was in the Labor party.

12 Joseph Lyons Joseph Lyons was Prime Minister from the 6th January 1932 to 7th April 1939. Joseph Lyons was the first PM to die in office. Joseph Aloysius Lyons was his full name. Robert died on the 15th May 1978. Robert was in the Liberal party.

15 Arthur Fadden Arthur Fadden was Prime Minister from the 29th August to 7th October 1941. Arthur Fadden retired from politics in 1958. Arthur Fadden was born on the 13th April 1894 at Ingham, QLD. Arthur William Fadden was his full name. Arthur’s electorate was Darling Downs, QLD. Arthur died on the 21 April 1973. Arthur Fadden was in the Country party.

Australia had six self governing colonies. They were New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania. These colonies were under British rule from the time the First Fleet landed in Many politicians and influenced Australians through the years had pushed for federation of the colonies, and self-government. Australian Federation was an agreement by the existing British colonies promising to work together under the Australian constitution as one nation. Australian Federation started January 1st They celebrated at Sydney’s Centennial Park.

He was only 12 years old and he had to work for 12 hours 6 days a week. Andrew went to school at night. He had to walk 4 kilometers from his house to the mines. In 1885 he came to Australia. Family Andrew’s parents names were Robert and Jane. His father was a miner. He was forced to leave his job when got pneumoconiosis. Andrew had 5 brothers and 1 sister.
