Celia’s Callitris Collecting Trips Undergraduate student Celia Symonds undertook a number of small collecting trips to sample as many Callitris species as possible for the Orthotyline Mirids found on this host plant. Callitris is in the plant family Cupressaceae, which has a relictual distribution in the southern hemisphere. Callitris is also found in New Caledonia. The trips undertaken were as follows: Trip 1 – Wollemi NP, Blue Mountains, NSW (1 day) Trip 2 – Northern NSW with PhD student Nik Tatarnic (5 days) Trip 3 – Far North Queensland (5 days) Trip 4 – Dharawal NP, nr Wollongong, NSW (1 day) Trip 5 – Northern Beaches of Sydney (1 day) Trip 6 – Woranora Dam, NSW (1 day)
Callitris - Northern NSW The Big Prawn, Ballina Callitris bayleyi endangered species, isolated population at the bottom of a steep gully in grazing land, nr Casino Callitris macleayana the only rainforest species, only juvenile trees growing on the forest edge were able to be reached, Coffs Harbour one callitroid Orthotylus species was found on this endangered Callitris bayleyi
Callitris oblonga - Northern NSW This endangered Callitris species is a small shrub with only three populations remaining and only found in NSW. No Orthotylus species were found on this Callitris species.
Callitris – North Queensland West of Paluma (just nth of Townsville) Callitris n. sp. “Paluma” one Orthotylus sp. found Emerald Creek Falls Atherton Tablelands Callitris n. sp. “Emerald Creek” one Orthotylus sp. found
Callitris – Wollemi NP, Blue Mountains nr Newnes Callitris rhomboidea one Orthotylus sp. found nr Newnes, Old Coach Rd Callitris endlicheri no Orthotylus species found Wentworth Falls Callitris muelleri no Orthotylus species found here or in Sydney
Results 30 localities sampled 13 Callitris species sampled Callitroid Orthotylus found on 11 Callitris ca. 350 specimens no Orthotylus found on the endangered Callitris oblonga which was sampled at all its known localities
