In this document, George Washington Carver wrote to farmers everything he knew about the sweet potato. He showed farmers the correct way to plant, what the sweet potatoes should look like, and gave them ideas about how to cook them!
These are two different pictures that Carver drew to describe the best way to plant a sweet potato. This picture is the correct way to plant the sweet potato plant because it has: 2 inches of fine soil at the top 7 inches of loose soil in the middle subsoil full of water This is the incorrect way to plant a sweet potato because it has too much loose soil which will dry out very fast.
This is a picture Carver drew of a sweet potato that is mature, or ready to be picked. We know Carver drew this picture because he signed his name at the bottom!
These are just a few of the ways Carver found to cook sweet potatoes! I’m sure you have eaten a sweet potato in at least one of these ways
