1 3 rd Annual Men of Standard Camp Our Mission: To teach young men fundamental business and life skills that enable them to become competent, caring, responsible individuals who will promote and enhance the quality of life for themselves and their communities. Enlighten Empower Encourage

2 2006 Highlights The 2006 Men of Standard camp impacted the lives of 9 boys and 7 camp counselors. The camp was created to show the boys their future opportunities in business and provide them with life skills they can use to shape themselves and their communities. The boys were also introduced to various economic, marketing, and management skills. 2006 Results: –Impacted the lives of 9 highschool boys. –The boys presented their products to an audience followed by a Q&A session. –We had 5 guest speakers. –Partnered with Wegmans, Xerox, and Summit FCU –Campers started their own T-shirt business with a focus on anti-piracy. –Products created were t-shirts and commercials that were later displayed at their school. –Curriculum was expanded to include topics such as problem solving, responsibility, creative thinking.

3 2006 Highlights Oscar Holloway (Xerox) & Patricia Cefarilli-Phillips (Summit FCU) Spoke with kids about the recipes for long- term success and prosperity: Dressing for Success and Personal Money Management. Tyrone (Ty) Kelly (Wegmans) taught the young men the value of being true to themselves and that if they wanted to be successful, then they need to first finish school and get a college education. Professor Floyd Johnson taught the young men the history of computers through their first college-like lecture.

4 2006 Highlights 13 WHAN News Kristen Miranda (News Reporter) Channel 13 was one of the media outlets that covered the camp. Kristen spoke to all the campers and even signed their camp shirts. She filmed them making their commercials and products. Wegman’s Food Market Johnnie Walker (Executive Chef) Wong Yi Tang Wegman’s hosted an International Luncheon Demonstration, teaching students how to prepare their own meals, and showed a presentation on the economy of China.

5 2007 Highlights This year, campers will learn business and life skills by developing their own fashion line and label companies. Several new goals to ensure that the camp continues to remain lively, challenging, and purposeful include: 2007 Plans: –Impact the lives of 15-20 8 th -9 th grade boys. –Expand the camp to 5 days instead of 4 days. –Open and offer the camp to 3 additional schools. –Expand the curriculum to offer college preparatory counseling –Teach business skills through fashion design & Personal Name branding. –Visit 3 local businesses. –Double the number of Partners and sponsors to 10. –Double the number of Guest Speakers to 10. –Students must pay an $15 capital investment that goes towards business start-up.
