2. HOSA is 100% Curricular HOSA is designed to be an instructional tool that extends the school day. Outcomes that are difficult to achieve in the classroom can be accomplished through HOSA.

3. HOSA for ALL Students 100% affiliation assures that no student feels left out of HOSA activities. Find ways to pay dues (donations, fund raising) for those with financial challenges, or those who choose not to pay.

4. HOSA As Classroom Leadership Students elect one representative from each class to serve on the Executive Council. The elected representative provides HOSA updates each day at the end of class. Some teachers allow “HOSA Time” as a reward at the end of class if instructional objectives were achieved.

5. HOSA As Classroom Leadership Allow a HOSA officer to present a certificate of appreciation to guest speakers. Have students write “thank you notes” to guest speakers as a HOSA activity. HOSA can paint the classroom, purchase equipment, etc., to contribute to the classroom.

6. Competitive Events as Instructional Tools After each unit with a great deal of terminology – use MEDICAL or DENTAL SPELLING as a review activity. Note: Some teachers modify the event by having the students define and spell the term.

Instead of careers - how about diseases, body systems, types of medical technology, healthy behaviors, bioethical issues, etc.. 12. Competitive Events as Instructional Tools Many teachers buy a HOSA Bowl buzzer system for the classroom. Creates a great format for review. Allow classmates to read the questions and serve as judges. Teaches leadership, teamwork and organizational skills while reviewing for a test.

13. Competitive Events as Instructional Tools Students love CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING. Creates a great format for including the teaching of thinking skills. Can allow other students to serve as judges, using the event rating sheet.

14. Competitive Events as Instructional Tools Is teaching PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE in your curriculum? If so, use the HOSA event guidelines from start to finish. Run the event as a unit assessment - both written (Round One) and performance.

15. Competitive Events as Instructional Tools BIOMEDICAL DEBATE is a very popular event for students. Use this event whenever there are opposing points of view to research. Students will invest learning time outside of class to prepare for this classroom activity.

16. Competitive Events as Instructional Tools The MEDICAL READING format can be used a variety of ways. Sometimes teachers assign reading assignments (text, articles, etc.) and use the Medical Reading format to encourage students to complete the assigned reading.

17. Make HOSA a Part of Good Instruction Make sure HOSA activities in the classroom are part of the lesson plan and support instructional objectives. Kids learn best when they are ENGAGED in the learning process, and having FUN. Make sure that ALL students feel a part of HOSA in the classroom.

18. HOSA Time Outside the Classroom is Still Teaching Time Never underestimate the value of the teacher/HOSA advisor as a role model for students. Use your HOSA time to get to know your students, reach out to those with challenges, and celebrate the worth of individual HOSA members!
