STAAR EOC The new state assessment of student knowledge and skills State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness End of Course
End of Course versus TAKS 65% of the test represents current course level knowledge and skills (readiness standards) 35% of the test represents prior knowledge and skills (supporting standards and process standards) TAKS = 35% current and 65% prior
RIGOR AND RELEVANCE

Depth and Complexity
DEPTH AND COMPLEXITY
Sample Question David wants to spread wildflower seeds in a rectangular field that is 60 feet wide and 70 feet long. Each package of wildflower seeds covers about 175 square feet and costs $6.95. Which of the following amounts is closest to the total cost of the wildflower seeds David needs for this field? F $24.00 G $170.00 H $604.00 J $310.00
Sample Question The sum of the perimeters of two different squares is 32 centimeters, and the difference between their perimeters is 8 centimeters. If x represents the side length of the larger square and y represents the side length of the smaller square, which of the following systems of equations could be used to find the dimensions of the squares? A x + y = 32 x − y = 8 B 4x + 4y = 32 4x − 4y = 8 C 2x + 2y = 32 2y − 2x = 8 D 4x + 2y = 32 4x − 2y = 8
Required for Graduation TAKS = Must master Exit-level assessments (those given in the 11 th grade) EOC = Must master 12 assessments Freshman: Algebra 1, Biology, World Geo, Eng 1 Sophomore: Geometry, Chemistry, W Hist, Eng 2 Junior: Algebra 2, Physics, US History, Eng 3 If you do not pass, then you will be placed in EOC remediation courses
Graduation Requirement Combined scores in each subject must meet state standard (ex. 1000 is maximum score; mastery equals 700 per test x 3 = 2100) You must meet the standard in all subjects Assessment scores represent 15% of your course grade for the year You could pass the course as a class but fail due to test score (remediation required) You could fail the course but pass due to test score You could fail both (remediation and summer school)
Diploma Plan: Minimum Students graduating under the Minimum High School Program (MHSP) must take STAAR EOC assessments for all courses in which they are enrolled and for which there is a STAAR EOC assessment available and meet a cumulative score requirement in each of the four foundation content areas. It is possible that some students graduating on the minimum plan will need to perform satisfactorily on as few as eight EOC assessments.
Diploma Plan: Recommended Students graduating under the Recommended High School Program (RHSP) must take all twelve STAAR EOC assessments (Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, biology, chemistry, physics, English I, English II, English III, world geography, world history, and U.S. history) and meet the cumulative score requirement in each of the four foundation content areas. Additionally, these students must achieve Level II: Satisfactory Academic Performance on the Algebra II and English III assessments in order to receive a diploma under the RHSP.
Diploma Plan: Distinguished Students graduating under the Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) must take all twelve EOC assessments and meet the cumulative score requirement in each of the four foundation content areas. In addition, these students must meet Level III: Advanced Academic Performance, the post secondary- readiness performance standard, on the Algebra II and English III assessments in order to receive a diploma under the DAP.
O PTIONAL F LEXIBLE S CHOOL Y EAR I NCENTIVE Pass your class coursework Pass the state assessment Have 90% attendance for the year Meet these requirements = out 10 days early Miss one of these requirements = stay 10 days longer
ACADEMIC ASSISTS History at LVHS has shown that students who participate in the interventions offered show increased levels of success on the next state assessment. The more interventions attended the great the success. Saturday TEKS Academies Before and After-school tutorials A.C.E. tutorials Homework Parental Support (Parent Portal, Parent-Teacher conferences, Parent-student dialogues) Be active and productive in class, ask questions, practice good listening and learning skills
