8. What happens if they don’t pass the first round? Students who do NOT pass the first round: – Will be pulled for interventions – Retest on May 13th (Math) and May 14th (Reading) Students who do NOT pass the second round: – Will go to summer school – Retest on June 24th (Math) and June 25th (Reading) It is also possible that in sixth grade, students may not get an elective and be put in an extra math or reading class.

9. What can you do? Know the STAAR testing schedule and avoid making appointments on that day. Make sure your child gets adequate rest and eats a healthy breakfast on the morning of the test. Encourage your child to do his or her best and express confidence that he or she will do well. Encourage your child to read a variety of all kinds (genres) of text: books, magazines, plays, poetry, newspapers, etc. Ensure students are completing their homework and assigned science/reading passages.
