2 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Why We Are Here-Workshop Goals 1.Review with partners in the field clear credential requirements to be submitted by applicants when seeking to qualify 2.Highlight important items affecting credential candidates seeking clear credentials 3.Outline the “take effect” and “drop dead” dates affecting credential types and programs in the near future 4.Review job aids to help clarify requirements 2

4 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Multiple Subject or Single Subject CA Prepared  Apply directly to Commission with transcripts verifying:  Master’s, 30 post-baccalaureate semester units, or 150 semester/225 quarter units within bachelor’s  Health Education + CPR (for California and out-of- country prepared if health listed on preliminary)  Mainstreaming  Computer Education (check credential for level)  Advanced Teaching English Learners (California only) 4

5 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Multiple Subject or Single Subject OOS SB 1209-Experience Route ONE of the following:  150 clock hours of professional activities under the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP); OR  A master’s degree or the equivalent in semester units AND  California English learner authorization 5

6 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Multiple Subject or Single Subject National Board Certification ♦ ♦Hold California preliminary credential ♦ ♦Obtain National Board Certificate in area of preliminary credential ♦ ♦Application form and fees 6

7 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Multiple Subject or Single Subject National Board Certification Teachers holding National Board Certification in the area of science will be issued the specific California science authorization based upon:   An out-of-state credential with a matching subject,   A copy of the individual’s NBPTS “My Profile” status page report which indicates the specific science certificate specialty area in which National Board Certification was issued, or 7

8 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Multiple Subject or Single Subject National Board Certification   Official (original) transcripts from a regionally- accredited college or university showing a bachelor’s or higher degree major or 32 semester units of coursework in the appropriate science subject.   Required documentation must be submitted with the photocopy of the individual’s National Board Certificate and other supporting materials. 8

9 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Multiple Subject or Single Subject Prepared Outside U.S. & Peace Corps Clear Credential Requirements: ♦ ♦RC = Basic Skills Requirement (within first year) ♦ ♦READ = Reading (or RICA for Multiple Subject) ♦ ♦US = U.S. Constitution ♦ ♦RSMC = Subject-Matter Competence ♦ ♦PRO = Commission-approved General Education Induction program ♦ ♦CPR = CPR for adults, infants, and children (prepared outside U.S. only) 9

10 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Special Education CA Prepared Level II Level II Credential Requirements:   Individualized Induction Plan; obtain the formal recommendation   Complete a course in: – –Health Education with CPR – –Computer Education   Two years of full-time special education teaching experience 10

11 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Special Education CA Prepared CLEAR Transition to the Clear Credential   Holders of the Level I may transition to a Commission-approved Induction program in special education to obtain the Clear Education Specialist Instruction credential   Transition Plan from the preliminary program will be developed for each candidate prior to the completion of the preliminary program 11

12 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Special Education CA Prepared CLEAR   Transition Plans assist the developers in the creation of the Individualized Induction Plan (IIP)   An IIP for a candidate with a Level I Education Specialist Instruction Credential completing an induction program must also address the content currently in the Level II program 12

14 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Special Education CA Prepared National Board Clear Credential Requirements:   National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification in the area of Exceptional Needs/Early Childhood through Young Adulthood 14

15 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Special Education OOS Prepared Route One Level II Credential Requirements:   RSN = Commission-approved Level II Program including an individualized induction plan and obtain a formal recommendation   REL = English Learner Authorization   RSG = Ed Spec issued on basis of generic program; will also need to complete equivalent of Commission-approved Level 1 program content 15

16 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Special Education OOS Prepared Route Two Level II Credential Requirements:   RS2 = Complete one of the following: – –150 clock hours of professional activities, documented on Verification of Completion Form CL- 820A – –A master’s degree or higher or an equivalent in a related field – –A bachelor’s degree that consisted of a minimum of 150 semester units (or 225 quarter units).   REL = English Learner Authorization 16

18 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Special Education OOS Prepared National Board   Submit one of the following: a) A copy of the individual’s NBPTS “My Profile” status page report which indicates the specific special education certificate specialty area completed b) Official transcripts verifying the content of the special education program completed 18

19 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Special Education OOS Prepared National Board c) Photocopy of out-of-state credential with a corresponding specific special education specialty area If the out-of-state credential was issued in only “Special Education,” or in a specialty area that does not align with a California specialty area, individual will need to complete the equivalent of a Commission-approved Level I program to earn the Level II credential 19

20 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Administrative Services CA Prepared Clear Credential Requirements:   Valid Preliminary Administrative Services Credential   Two years full time Administrative Services experience in CA 20

21 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Administrative Services CA Prepared   Complete one of the following: – –Recommendation from Commission- approved program – –CDE Administrator Training Program (ATP) Modules 1, 2 and 3 – –Mastery of Fieldwork Performance Standards through a Commission-approved program 21

22 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Administrative Services OOS Prepared with Experience Clear Credential Requirements:   Qualify for or hold a CA Preliminary Administrative Services Credential   Complete three years of out-of-state public school administrative experience   Provide two rigorous performance evaluations 22

25 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credentials as of January 1, 2011 Individuals must satisfy all of the following requirements for the CLEAR:   Valid Preliminary DS Adult Education Credential   Commission-approved program   Two years of experience on the Credential in the subject(s) listed 25

27 Commission on Teacher Credentialing Inspire, Educate, and Protect the Students of California Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching (CTE) Credentials as of January 1, 2009 Individuals must satisfy all of the following requirements for the CLEAR:   Valid Preliminary CTE Credential   Commission-approved program including SDAIE   Two years of experience on the credential in the industry sector(s) listed OR Commission-approved program of advanced personalized preparation as determined by the program sponsor agency 27
