1 6 Man Mechanics

2 For all 6 Man Games, we will follow the MPSSAA Manual with a few minor exceptions. 1.Coin Toss – H & LJ – Stay on sideline and observe players. Keep them off the field. 2.Chains will be opposite the press box or where designated by the home team. We will position ourselves accordingly. 3.Goal Line coverage changes at the 7 yard line. 4.U will NOT give a thumbs up on goal line plays.

3 Positions: – “R” – Referee – “U” – Umpire – “H” – Head Linesman – “L” – Line Judge – “F” – Field Judge – “S” – Side Judge – “CO” – Clock Operator

4 Clocks & Admin Duties– – “F” will have the GAME CLOCK – “S” will have the PLAY CLOCK – “F” will be responsible for recording fouls – “R” will be responsible for ensuring the Game report is entered online within 24 hours. (Can designate alternate individual)

5 Coin Toss – – Takes place 3 minutes prior to kickoff. – R & U escort captains to the Center of Field. – F & S will retrieve a game ball from their respective team – H & LJ will observe the teams from the sideline.

7 Kickoffs U R H F L S Scoreboard S, H, L & U, put hand up when Ready. Hold until R blows whistle. F – When you count 11, K has 4 on each side, they are within 5 yards and S & L have hand up, hand ball to kicker then run to sideline. If K violates 5 yard rule, do not put hand up.

8 Kickoffs U R H F L S Scoreboard R – responsible for ensuring there are 4 players on each side of kicker when ball is kicked.

9 Onside Kickoffs U R H F L S Scoreboard R – responsible for ensuring there are 4 players on each side of kicker when ball is kicked. S, H, F & L – STAND STILL THE ENTIRE TIME.

10 Scrimmage Plays U R H F L S Scoreboard Snap – H & L hold line of scrimmage initially. H will slide if key takes you down field. L stays on the line. S & F – At the snap start movement by back pedaling. Focus on key and read the play. Shift to zone within a few seconds.

11 Running Plays U R H F L S Scoreboard Snap – If you read run, stay on the line. Only go down field if the runner goes past the LOS. S & F – Once you read run, hold position but be ready to continue down field well ahead of the play. Keep a cushion on the play.

12 Running Plays U R H F L S Scoreboard Long Runs – H & L have the spot until the 2 yard line. S & F – You are responsible for the goal line.

13 Passing Plays U R H F L S Scoreboard Passes – L holds the LOS until pass is thrown. H can slide if needed. No more than 5 yards. S & F – Stick with key and stay ahead of the play. Don’t get beat deep.

14 Change of Possession U R H F L S Scoreboard Interception – Reverse Mechanics

15 Punts U R H F L S Scoreboard R – On kicking leg side. 5 yards deep, 2-3 yds outside the TE. S & F – Be even with receiver. Watch initial action on gunners. Then R in your area. H & L – Hold LOS until ball crosses. H responsible for ball crossing.

16 Punts – Runbacks & Spots U R H F L S Scoreboard F & S will take the spot on runbacks to the 2 yard line.

17 Punts – Long Runbacks U R H F L S Scoreboard

18 Punts – Busted Punts U R H F L S Scoreboard H & L – Whoever faces R’s back stays. Other retreat.

19 Field Goals & PAT’s U R H L F S

20 Busted/Fake FG – Inside 10 Yd Line U R H L F S

21 Busted/Fake FG – Outside 10 Yd Line U R H L F S H & L have entire sideline. F Has the GL S takes end line

22 Goal Line Plays U R H L F S Inside 7 Yard Line: S & F – End Line at the numbers. H & L – You have GL when snapped. U – Move to LOS if a pass.
