SHOSHONE NATIONAL FOREST DRAFT PLAN Dale Kerkvliet, CF ® Webinar November 8, 2012

Lands Suitable for Timber Production “The timber suitability classification for the Shoshone was accomplished by applying planning regulation criteria (36 CFR 219.14 1982 regulations) in a step-wise process. Forest-wide geographic information system data were used to analyze and map the classification. Ranger district timber personnel reviewed the results and adjusted criteria to reflect on-the-ground experience.”

Standards and Guidelines Components DRAFT: Construction Not an option for unstable soils/landscape. Designed, located, and constructed to be low- impact and reclaimed - usually within 1 year. Designed to the minimum standard necessary to access the target. Located to lie lightly on the landscape and minimize impacts to soil, water, wildlife, etc. continued…

Constructed to be “rolled up/deconstructed Place logs and slash against standing trees on downhill side to catch fill Salvage topsoil and stumps place above cut slope Establish vertical cut-slopes

Do not grub stumps below fill to catch the fill. Design with grade rolls to divert water from surface. Draws and drainages need to be assessed separately. Seed and fertilize road surface. Vehicles/equipment “weed free” Standards and Guidelines Components DRAFT: Construction
