Doug Domenech Secretary of Natural Resources April 10, 2013 Environment Virginia 2013 Virginia Military Institute Lexington, Virginia Environmental & Energy Priorities Environmental & Energy Priorities
1993 Air Water DEQ Waste Council on the Environment Long Range Planning = function of Council on the Environment
What environmental & energy issues, if not adequately addressed, will be of greatest concern to you & your constituency in the next 30-50 years? 2013
Possibilities Include... Results will be communicated to all SNR agencies and other Secretariats Agencies will be encouraged to incorporate results into their long-range planning and processes Non-governmental groups and individuals will be encouraged to Continue to communicate with state government Take appropriate actions in their spheres of influence Participate in cooperative public/private efforts Assist state agencies, VMI, and others in continuing dialogue
Possibilities do not include...... a formal “plan” in the traditional sense – one that would find its place on our bookshelves & never be implemented.
Instead... We are encouraging all parties to work with us in focusing on common priorities for the future, understanding that each person, agency, and organization can contribute to effective resolution of priorities, in ways that they deem suitable for their individual roles, responsibilities, needs, and resources.
We cannot address a future we have not first envisioned.
