State of Digital Repository Systems- Abigail

The Task  Research and create a written report about:  Institutional Repositories  the current landscape, software, best practices, comparison of software options…  Digital Preservation  Landscape, software, best practices, etc.  Media Repositories  Images, sound, video  Archives Management systems  Records Management systems

My Work  My main goal – produce what FLO, its working groups, and member libraries would need in order to make informed decisions about Digital Repository choices.  Resources for further information  Digital Powrr  Bibliographies for further reading  60+ page report (available from FLO)  Spreadsheet comparing different systems (also available from FLO)

Key Findings  Specialization  Archives, IR, digital objects that are non-archival and non-scholarly  Purpose matters  Because of specialization, it’s important to identify how a repository will be used in order to get the most out of it  Small Academic Institutions  Typically choose much different products than large institutions  Less focus on scholarly output  More focus on interesting material that showcases what’s special about the institution

Product Identification Tools  Chart to identify differences between IR/Archives/Records Management/Curriculum Support Materials  Report to detail the landscape, describe my findings, etc.  Spreadsheet to allow for comparison of specific features
