1 Christ’s Presence in our Culture
Unit 3

2 In scripture, Jesus proclaims that he will always be with us
In scripture, Jesus proclaims that he will always be with us. Although he is not physically with us, the presence of the Holy Spirit allows him to work with us.

3 Here are the 5 ways Christ is present today:
1. Jesus acts through people 2. Jesus acts through people who freely choose to be in communion with him 3. Jesus acts through the Word Word of Scripture 4. Jesus acts in the liturgy 5. Jesus acts in the witness of people

4 1. Jesus acts through people
transforming culture into what God wants/intends for us, is a vocation for all Christians when we act according to God’s wishes and commandments we make Jesus and his teachings present in culture

5 2. Jesus acts through people who freely choose to be in communion with him
Jesus is the goodness of God incarnate (come to life, human existence of God) a person’s conversion to Christ (choosing to follow his example) brings us closer to God

6 3. Jesus acts through the Word of Scripture
the beliefs, meanings and values of Christianity are not human inventions our culture was revealed to us by God, through Jesus and are found in Scripture to find our way in culture we must turn to the example set out by Jesus Christians believe that Jesus is present when we proclaim Scripture

7 4. Jesus acts in the liturgy
the spirit of Jesus is active when the Christian community assembles to give praise and thanks in the form of the Eucharistic celebration Christ is always present when we celebrate the sacraments (Baptism, Confession etc.) and sacred moments (Advent, Lent, etc.) these times remind us of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus

8 5. Jesus acts in the witness of people
Jesus is present when we do something for others (ex: feed the hungry) Jesus tells us that whenever we care for a person in need, we show we care for him (Matthew 25:40) the first letter of John 4:8 teaches us that God is love, therefore, when we act in love, God is present love is our greatest gift and the greatest gift that Christians can make to culture is to live a life of love
