Comparisons are made between the gospel accounts of Matthew, Luke, Mark, and John, for the purpose of investigating sources. The distinction is made that only Matthew and Luke incorporate accounts of Jesus' infancy, and further distinctions are made between elements that form parts of the Christmas story that are biblical and those that are not.
