1. Welcome to S 2 Math! (Mr. Spurlock’s class) Hopefully we’ll have a little fun AND learn some Math at the same time.

2. A little about me… This is my 17 th year teaching. I have taught everything from 7 th grade math through Pre-Calculus including a few courses at Johnson County Community College This is my 14 th year in Shawnee Mission. I taught at Hocker Grove for 2 years (1999 – 2001) before moving to Shawnee Mission South High School for 7.

3. I taught at a private American school in Alexandria, Egypt, for 2 years and came back to Hocker Grover after a two- year leave of absence. We have a 3 ½ year old daughter who we “brought back from Egypt” with us. Our son will be 1 in early September.

4. Classroom & iPad information My Web Backpack is updated weekly with assignments. I do change it as necessary during the week. Tests (and sometimes quizzes) are announced a week ahead of time so students can enter reminders into their iPad calendar.Web Backpack I will do my best to post class notes online for students to access if absent in order to save paper. We will use iPads on occasion in class. Please remember this is the first year for everyone. There will be some growing pains, but we will all get through it together! Students will be given access information to their textbook online next week.

5. Calculators Prealgebra students will need access to a TI-30XS scientific calculator. You can purchase one for around $15 or rent one from the school for $5 for the entire year. Algebra students will need access to a TI-84 calculator. You can purchase one for around $110. We DO NOT require purchase due to the high cost though it is the last calculator they will ever need if taken care of. I still have my original one 24 years later! Students can use them in class, but they are not checked out. They may also rent one from the school for $20 for the entire year.

6. Useful Information I am available before school for help any day except Tuesdays. I am available after school on Mondays/Wednesdays by appointment.
