8 Opportunities for Waterborne Research in FP7 Ship Repair & Maintenance SHIPMATES - SHIPrepair to MAintain Transport which is Environmentally Sustainable Grant: M€2.2 Partners: 12 (SSA; A&P Group; Univ of Newcastle; Univ of Herts) Objectives: The project methodology is designed to provide a clear understanding of best practice in the ship repair sector and to map and to simulate the range of repair and conversion yard activities, with the exception of painting and coating. Deliverable The objective is to provide a blueprint for a technologically advanced and environmentally friendly ship repair/conversion yard, with a target of a 20% productivity improvement over today’s European yards.

9 Opportunities for Waterborne Research in FP7 Marine Leisure CLEANMOULD - Boat Hulls With Enhanced Performance Grant: M€1.4 Partners: 6 (Euro-Projects; VT Halmatic) Objectives: To develop new environmentally friendly manufacturing processes for the production of lightweight thermoplastic composite structural vehicles, incl. boat hulls. Deliverable The project aims to develop and demonstrate the manufacture of an 8 m boat hull with a 10% weight saving and significantly enhanced impact resistance over conventional boats made in glass fibre reinforced polyester resins.

10 Opportunities for Waterborne Research in FP7 Marine Operations & Equipment FLAGSHIP - European Framework For Safe, Efficient And Environmentally-Friendly Ship Operations Grant: M€10 Partners: 48 (Incl. 9 UK) Objectives: To improve the safety, environmental friendliness and competitiveness of European maritime transport. Deliverable The project will deliver monitoring, inspection, navigation, and management systems for ships and develop incentives and controls to maximise the utilisation of effective tools, processes and procedures.
