5 Page 4 IT Services at UAB Provide support for the administrative and student information systems Over 2,000,000 purchases orders and invoices have been processed in Oracle since Finance Go-live October 2004 Over 780,000 HR transactions (timesheets, actions, changes, terminations, payroll) have been processed in Oracle since go-live last January

7 Page 6 IT Services at UAB Provide support for course management system and use of instructional technologies Over 1,100 courses were delivered using functionality from our course management systems this past year Course management system is also used for training employees in areas such as, diversity and compliance.

9 Page 8 IT Services at UAB Provide centralized web based email and calendars 18,000 mailboxes in use 1.25 million messages processed each day Provide online email account registration for students as they sign up for their BlazerID at orientation

12 Page 11 IT Services at UAB Operate the network (wired and wireless) Approximately 20,000 devices connected to the network All buildings are connected to the network with Gigabit Ethernet links Links to the outside world through the Internet at 100Mb, and Internet2 at 155Mb connections Extensive physical network infrastructure Over 55 manholes and 200 smaller handholes Approximately 176 miles of fiber (single mode and multimode) Approx 54,000 stations wired for current and future use

17 Page 16 IT Initiatives Underway Replacement of the Student Information, Alumni and Development Systems Provides a common platform at all three UA System campuses Brings together separate systems in existence today Allows UAB to take advantage of in-house expertise in Oracle forms and database as well as in Unix Allows faculty and students to easily access information on the web anytime and anywhere
