Some youth feel comfortable talking and socializing with members of the opposite sex. But others feel very nervous and awkward. This is not unusual. Those who are less comfortable can learn from those who are more comfortable.” (Brad Wilcox, New Era, Aug. 2001)

4 Speed Dating You will get to know 7 people a bit better today; as you meet, work through the scripture passage together, and then talk about the random question that appears.

6 Chose a number – #1 or #2 Read through and complete its activity; after, spend some time talking about the random question 1. Read (and mark) D&C 69:7–8 and look for the importance the Lord placed on the history John Whitmer was to write. Hum the song “Family history, I am doing it, my family history...” together as a partnership 2. Discuss the tallest man made structure you’ve ever seen. How deep do you think its foundation is? Read (and mark) the section heading for Doctrine and Covenants 70 to find the foundation of our church.

11 TIME : How much time do you spend each week fulfilling your calling in your ward? How much time do you think the prophet spends on his calling? Read (and mark) Doctrine and Covenants 70:12–16 and look for blessings that come through service. MEAN : Doctrine and Covenants 71 was revealed at a time when critics were making false accusations against the Church. How do you feel when you hear criticisms or falsehoods about the Church? Read and mark Doctrine and Covenants 71:1, 4, 7, 9–10 for some insights. Say something nice to the couple next to you.

15 Read through and complete the activity; after, spend some time talking about the random questions below. Edward Partridge, the first bishop in the Church, was called to serve in Independence. In section 72 the Lord called Newel K. Whitney to serve as the second bishop in the Church in Kirtland. Find (and mark) 3 responsibilities of a bishop in Doctrine and Covenants 72:3–5, 10–11, 16–19. And, as you’re marking, think of some ways we can better sustain our bishops.

20 PARENTS : Read D&C 73:2-6. it speaks of not being married with non- believers. "Because dating is a preparation for marriage, date only those who have high standards, who respect your standards, and in whose company you can maintain the standards of the gospel of Jesus Christ" (For the Strength of Youth [pamphlet, 2011], 7). Did you know that only one out of seven non- member spouses convert to the gospel? Discuss qualities you hope your future spouse has. CHILDREN : Read Doctrine and Covenants 74:7 and discuss the doctrine in that verse. Look up one of the footnotes to that verse and read together. Talk about your favorite sibling and why you love them.

Lift up your voice (D&C 75:9). Pray for the Holy Ghost (D&C 75:10). Mark Promises in D&C 75 to missionaries and discuss your favorite ones: You will have immortality and eternal life (v. 5) You will be taught by the Comforter (v. 10). You will have the Lord with you (v. 11). You will be lifted up at the last day (v. 16). You will be filled with joy and gladness (v. 21). You will overcome all things (v. 22).
