In a place that's new It speaks of old Amazing things we should behold The picture, even the old art Reminders of the ancient heart The heart of old NZ This stuff was gone, it was stored where we couldn't see it It scares me because its the old NZ Were we really like this? Did we wear these things? Everything changed, nothings new Where is old NZ? Melanie MacDonald Baradene College

The buildings tower over the trees But nature still sneaks through The tarmac and brick Are over powered by green Windows stretch forward, without meeting Smoke wisps away and pictures show the idealised peace that may have never been Pathways lead to somewhere shielded by the trees And the ladybird looks unnatural on wooden stool The untouched land Interspersed with trucks. Laura St Cuthberts

I can breath on this side of the glass Zen, balance Geometric world Lines circles and curves Kelly Baradene College

A place of the new within a place of the old The calming surrealness trapped in the rush of the living tranquillity where there is rush Baradene College

Bare tree branches pierce the blue sky Dark clouds linger meaningless, watching Rain will come, but when? Will the suns arms dry it with their brightness once more Or are they sleepy, like the lazy flag waving at the wind As smoke pours from a chimney of a threatening brick building I don't know what goes on in there but I’m not sure I want to Evie Talbot - Takapuna Grammar

I sit close to the ground my back is to the windows the black wall in front of me reflects the speeding street the hum of the building blends in with wheels on the road I turn to watch the traffic the sun bounces off a white Ute and a police car flashes past in checks I look up the ceiling the wired lights shine with metal grating against the concrete panels it looks like a warehouse with a wall of windows and an industrial roof I cant see how this is a library there are photos of pre-war babies and feathered Maori Chiefs but books? None. Kate Thompson St Cuthberts

When a small crack appears you don't care when it shatters you ask what happened Can one be faceless when they can still see, speak and breathe? What would you miss most if you couldn't see? 20 Sweet little faces and puffs of white linen And starchy cotton unsuppressed Except of the dark heavy peccavi eyes Your stand in your lines They are nothing but elegant separation No author
