FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
OUR STORY Once upon a time…. Well…you know the beginning. But we would like to update you on the present.
OUR STORY As some of you may know, trying to have a child has proven difficult. As another option, we have discussed adoption.
OUR STORY With Trudi’s knowledge of taking care of children with special needs, we opened our hearts to considering a child with one.
I WANT TO WALK PROGRAM Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children teamed with Happy Families International Center to sponsor children from Russian orphanages who have missing limbs to come and have surgery, prosthetics made, and work with physical therapists to learn to walk.
TWO WORLDS COLLIDE In June, a beautiful 6 year old boy from Russia came to the United States with the help of Happy FamilIes’ “I Want to Walk” program.
DEMITREY’S STORY Dima, as far as we know, has been in an orphanage since shortly after birth. He was born with one deformed leg and one fully missing leg.
DEMITREY’S STORY Dima took a 17 hour train ride to Moscow, his first plane ride to the U.S., and a trip to TSRHC for surgery all in a very short time frame. His resilience and positive spirit prevails.
THE HARD TRUTH Orphaned children with physical disabilities do not get the opportunity for higher education or the means to get around easily like they do in the U.S.
THE HARD TRUTH Many of these children only have physical disabilities…and are very intelligent, creative, and capable of being anything they want to be. Dima is one of these children.
BECOMING A JUBENVILLE We are presently a host family for Dima. He is working on walking with his new legs, learning English, and participating in activities he has never been able to experience.
BECOMING A JUBENVILLE Every day, we begin to see his beautiful personality, confidence and ability to love unfold. He is smart, quick- witted, brave and adventurous.
BECOMING A JUBENVILLE He wants to learn and be part of a family. He loves to help with chores and is sensitive to others’ needs and feelings.
A FUTURE We’ve talked with his physician and the prosthetic staff, and are confident we can manage the challenges ahead. The hospital will continue to support Dima’s needs as he grows.
OUR NEEDS International adoption requires extensive paperwork and is expensive. It also demands a lot of emotional support.
OUR NEEDS We must raise funds to meet the financial obligation. We will be required to travel to Russia at least once, maybe twice, to finalize the adoption.
OUR NEEDS Due to these financial requirements, our goal is to raise $20,000. It sounds daunting, but we have faith.
YOUR HELP We ask you to consider helping us with this endeavor- financially, through prayers, and any way you feel led to help.
YOUR HELP We also ask If you know anyone who would be interested in helping, please forward this to those people.
OUR FAITH We are getting to know our prospective son as we go through this process. It makes it very emotional and also urges us on to make him ours.
OUR FAITH We believe Dima will become a Jubenville and that our lives collided for a reason. If he has to return to Russia before we are done, we need prayer for his heart should that happen.
OUR FAITH Religion on that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27 James 1:27
