12 Hope In dire circumstances hope can be used as a final chance for survival. As the story progresses all the boys have fully adapted to Jack’s lifestyle except for Ralph. Hope is slowly lost in every boy throughout the story and by the very end as Ralph is hunted by his original tribe members he feels himself holding onto the only hope he has left as a means of survival.
