2 School for the 21st century at the heart of the community PROBLEM SOLVING 1 THE PROBLEM I FACE IS HOW TO RAISE AWARENESS OF: THE NEED FOR US TO REDUCE OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT THE NEED FOR US TO LIVE SUSTAINABLY THE PROBLEMS CAUSED BY GLOBAL WARMING THE NEED FOR INDUSTRY TO ADDRESS GREEN ISSUES THE IMPACT THE NEED TO PROTECT THE ENVIROMENT HAS ON THE ECONOMY OF WALES.

Students describe the main features of the chosen problem –Impact on people –Impact on safety –How has the problem evolved over time E.T.C.

4 School for the 21st century at the heart of the community PROBLEM SOLVING 1 How to tackle the problem Students should devise two solutions to tackle this problem They should review the two possible options and discuss with tutors and peers which option is best suited to solve the problem.

What dose your chosen option allow you to do. Will the solution raise awareness How can you show it has raised awareness It depends on the solution the student has chosen, however they need to think of how will their chosen solution demonstrates how the problem will be solved.

9 School for the 21st century at the heart of the community PROBLEM SOLVING 1 Action Plan This must be detailed –Dates information needs to be obtained by –Materials and resource requirements –Must regularly review action plan and record when the actions have been completed –Any changes to the action plan should also be recorded

10 School for the 21st century at the heart of the community PROBLEM SOLVING 1 Safety Students should record how they intend to work safely when solving their problem. Support Students should record the support they have received and the impact this has had.

Students should look back at their “how will you know its been solved” section and comment on whether this has shown success. They should review their action plan Make sure they have done what they said they would

12 School for the 21st century at the heart of the community PROBLEM SOLVING 1 Review how they solved the problems? Students evaluate strengths and weakness of their approach. The students should use specific examples and describe why they were successful or unsuccessful. –Time keeping –Planning –ETC Students should reflect on how they worked through the problem solving activity and how can they improve their problem solving skills in the future.
