Macbeth Act IV Macbeth goes back to the witches 1 st Apparition Armed head Beware Macduff 2 nd Apparition Bloody Child For none of woman born shall harm Macbeth. (if you are born from a c-section you are not born of a woman- Macduff)
3 rd Apparition Child Crowned with a tree in his Hand Macbeth shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane hill shall come against him. translation: Macbeth shall never be overthrown until the woods move toward his castle. 4 th Apparition Procession of eight Kings, the last carrying a mirror, with Banquo following. Macbeth recognizes that Macduff is a threat and knows that he is in ENGLAND. Decides to have Macduffs family killed… Quote: From this moment the very firstlings of my heart shall be the firstlings of my hand. said by Macbeth. Whatever he thinks of he will do without thinking it through. Scene 2 Lady Macduff is upset about her husband leaving because he didnt tell her-she says that he is a traitor.
Lady Macduff is warned that there are people coming after her but she doesnt believe that they are because she has done nothing wrong. Macduffs entire family is killed! Malcolm tests Macduffs loyalty because he still doesnt know who he can trust… 1.He will be a worse ruler than Macbeth. 2.He wants all the women. 3.He wants all the money, lands and wealth. 4.He doesnt have any of the virtues of a king.
Malcolm admits that he was testing Macduff. Initially Ross doesnt tell Macduff about his family…then he finally does…Macduff needs to use his familys murder to fuel his anger and dispute it like a man. At the end of Act IV, they are going back to Scotland with an army of 10,000 men with Siward and Young Siward (2 Englishmen).
