**What is a fraction? 1 A simple fraction has two parts:**

-a numerator which is the number on the top line and -a denominator which is the number on the bottom line. For example: 3 is the NUMERATOR 4 is the DENOMINATOR

What is a fraction? 2 An improper fraction has a numerator that is bigger than the denominator: For example: 7 is the NUMERATOR 4 is the DENOMINATOR and 7 is bigger than 4

A mixed number has a whole number part and a proper fraction part: For example: The whole number part is 2 and the fraction part is This fraction can also be expressed as an improper fraction
