2. Some people live in apartments. Most families live in houses. Most university students or people who don´t have children live in apartments. Most of the time, our apartments have bigger rooms than in the apartments in Spain.

3. Do you live in a house or an apartment?

4. Houses in the United States are very different from homes in Spain. We like big rooms with lots of space.

5. Houses in the USA are normally in neighbourhoods. A neighbourhood has lots of houses and no stores.

6. My family is not rich and they are not poor. Our house is considered medium or in the middle in the United States. It is not very big and it is not very small. It is 167 square meters.

7. Our garage can fit two cars in it.

8. There are three bedrooms in my house. I share a bedroom with my sister. My brothers share a room also.

9. How many bedrooms does your house have?

10. We have lots of books at my house which we use for school. My siblings and I didn’t go to elementary school or high school. My mom taught us at home. In Spain, you go to jail if you don’t send your children to school. In the USA you have a choice. You can go to a public school, a private school or be homeschooled. I was homeschooled until I went to a university.

12. My dog lives in my house. Some people also have pet cats, lizards, spiders, rabbits, guinea pigs, or birds.

15. We have a dining room but most of the time we eat in the family room. We eat in the dining room when friends visit us.

16. Do you eat in your dining room or your kitchen?

17. This is the family room. Behind that door is our utility room.

18. Lots of houses in Florida have a special room for doing laundry. We call it a utility room. Most Americans wash their clothes in a washing machine and then dry them in a dryer. It is unusual for someone in the USA to not use a dryer.

19. Does your family own a washing machine?

20. Some very small houses and apartments don’t have washing machines and dryers in them so those people go to a Laundromat. This is a store that is full of washing machines that you can pay to use.

22. Outside the door you can see our lanai. Lanais are very popular in Florida.

23. This is our kitchen. My dad wanted a big kitchen because he likes to cook.

24. There is a bathroom in my parents’ room. In most American houses, the biggest bedroom has a bathroom in it.

25. Does one of the bedrooms in your house have a bathroom in it?

26. It is common for a bathroom to have more than one sink in it.

27. There are two bathrooms in my house and this is the other one.

28. When my parents went shopping for a house, they wanted a house with a big backyard. This is not common in Florida.

29. Do you have a backyard?

30. Most houses in Florida have a swimming pool. My house does not.

31. Are swimming pools common in Aguilar?

32. We have trash cans next to our house and once a week a garbage truck comes buy and picks up the trash. This can be a problem because raccoons try to eat the trash and make a mess.

33. My grandparents have a very funny house. It has three floors and the first floor is a huge garage. My grandpa is a mechanic and likes to fix cars. This house is very unusual in the USA and my grandpa told someone how he wanted it built.
