6 Minas Gerais is the 2nd state in Brazil harboring biotechnologic based companies which comprises 30% of the national enterprises. Minas Gerais has important universities such as UFMG and various research institutes with tradition in Human and Animal Medicine, Biochemistry, Pharmacy and Agronomy. UFMG has more than 160 researchers with a Ph.D. in biological sciences and more than 60% of its patents are related to biotechnology.
