The New Testament for All Jeremiah 31:31-34

31 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” Jer. 31:31-34

2 The LORD our God made a covenant with us 3 The LORD did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive. 4 The LORD talked with you face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire. 5 I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the LORD; for you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up the mountain. He said: 6 'I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 7 'You shall have no other gods before Me...” Deut. 5:2-7 15 And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. Deut. 5:15

The Covenant with Jews made known

The Covenant=The Ten Commandments 13 So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone. Deut. 4:13 9 Nothing was in the ark except the two tablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt 1 Kings 8:9 10 Nothing was in the ark except the two tablets which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they had come out of Egypt. 2 Chron. 5:10

11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands— 12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. Eph. 2:11-16

He Removed the Old Law

A New Covenant Promised: Old Law to pass

13 In that He says, “a new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. Heb. 8:13

He Removed the Old Law A New Covenant Promised: Old Law to pass away The Old Law to pass away when Jesus fulfilled it

17 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Matt. 5:17-18

He Removed the Old Law A New Covenant Promised: Old Law to pass away The Old Law to pass away when Jesus fulfilled it The Old Law, added after Abraham, ended with Him

19 What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. (verse 16 says, “... thy seed which is Christ”). Gal. 3:19

He Removed the Old Law A New Covenant Promised: Old Law to pass away The Old Law to pass away when Jesus fulfilled it The Old Law, added after Abraham, ended with Him The Old Law separated Jews & Gentiles: Removed

15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. Eph. 2:15-16

He Removed the Old Law A New Covenant Promised: Old Law to pass away The Old Law to pass away when Jesus fulfilled it The Old Law, added after Abraham, ended with Him The Old Law separated Jews & Gentiles: Removed The Old Law made no one perfect: the New does

19 for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. Heb. 7:19 9 He takes away the first that He may establish the second. Heb. 10:9

He Removed the Old Law A New Covenant Promised: Old Law to pass away The Old Law to pass away when Jesus fulfilled it The Old Law, added after Abraham, ended with Him The Old Law separated Jews & Gentiles: Removed The Old Law made no one perfect: the New does The Old Law brought death: Removed came to end

7 But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, 8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? 2 Cor. 3:7-8

He Removed the Old Law A New Covenant Promised: Old Law to pass away The Old Law to pass away when Jesus fulfilled it The Old Law, added after Abraham, ended with Him The Old Law separated Jews & Gentiles: Removed The Old Law made no one perfect: the New does The Old Law brought death: Removed came to end We are no longer under the Old Law: purpose ended

24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Gal. 3:24-25

He Removed the Old Law A New Covenant Promised: Old Law to pass away The Old Law to pass away when Jesus fulfilled it The Old Law, added after Abraham, ended with Him The Old Law separated Jews & Gentiles: Removed The Old Law made no one perfect: the New does The Old Law brought death: Removed came to end We are no longer under the Old Law: purpose ended If married to Old and Jesus: Spiritual adultery

3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. 4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another— to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.... 6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. 7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” Rom. 7:3-7

There is a Sabbath for Christians 1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: "So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,' "although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works"; 5 and again in this place: "They shall not enter My rest." 6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, 7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, "Today," after such a long time, as it has been said: "Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts."

There is a Sabbath for Christians 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. 11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. Heb. 4:1-11 Dictionary Definition of Another “One more; an additional one; distinctly different from the first; not the same one already mentioned; an extra, one more, an additional one” -- “A further, an extra, one more, an additional one” -- “A different, an alternative, a variant”
